I recently started a restoration of a CHP 1990 Crown Vic and do not know the configuration of the rear deck lights (it is a slick top) and whether the red on the outside blinks with the amber/blue or stays steady. Also, did the CHP use radar in 1990 and, if so, does anyone know the type/band of radar used. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The CHP Academy has a museum. You might also try contacting them to see if they can provide assistance. I tried to find a phone number or web-page, but didn't come up with anything, but you should be able to find something.

There are 2 positions per the CHP wiring diagram. Pos 1 = Red light alternates with the blue light on the other side. Pos 2 = Blue light also alternats with the amber.

Very cool! Brought back lot's of fun memories. I drove a mustang part time in my very first office Hollister Gilroy (84-88) and then drove one when ever I could on I-5 in Los Banos for 6 years shagging speed and again in Sonora after that. Was really fun with spike spiders in the snow.

Might this have been a unit used in the Sonora area?

Ah. I see. I didnt realize that was a brand/product. When I used to live in Mammoth Lakes, I saw cars with those attachments on the wheels all the time, but never put two and two together. :noidea: Seems like a good idea.

Put chains on just once in the mud and snow and you'll think it's a great idea.

Yeah .... seriously though, when i lived in Mammoth, I had a good (jeep) 4x4 and dedicated snow tires. I had chains in the car for legality, but i NEVER needed to put them on the car. I test-fix them in the dry garage .... and i can imagine how much of a pain they would have been to put on in heavy/wet snow.

That's the back lot of the Gold Run Area. Thanks much for providing that identification. What an interesting vehicle choice for winter use up there! Also very rare to see a Mustang equipped with a lightbar.
