With the camera work in that video, you wouldn't be able to tell.

Didn't they use oil back in the old days?

Not being able to retain control of the car while performing those maneuvers = Fail. Anybody who's been through it will tell you that while it IS a ton of fun, it's also not as easy as it looks. There's a very fine line for both throttle modulation and steering input - too much or too little of either (or both) will get you in trouble very quickly.

I wonder no more. Thanks Mac.

And people DO fail it all of the time. My class lost a couple there.

BIG 2nd. Quite a few guys from my class failed out on Skid Pan. Out of all the EVOC training courses, I think Skid Pan was the most difficult for Cadets.

Skid pan rocks !

It is easy if you have a good ass , foot, hand coordination.

Good times

After almost 2 years of patrol duty at Bakersfield, my Mustang was reassigned to the skidpan in 1990 where it stayed until it was finally run out in 2000. The worst wear and tear by far from that assignment came from the relentless sun and heat that beat on it all those years (and all the spiders and wasps that called it home too!).

Skid pan would be AWESOME with a posi-trak rear-end...it's awesome with the Crown Vic, but wow, lock up the rear with wide tires and hang on!

Roughly 10% of cadets in recent classes have failed from skidpan alone. Those numbers take away a lot of the fun.

That may well be the case, but a cop who can't get his/her driving skills down to the subconscious muscle memory is a danger to himself and others, IMO. If recovering from an oversteer is a problem in a safe and controlled environment like the skidpad for ya, what are you going to do when you are out there chasing down bad guys through an area you haven't ever set foot in before at 100mph?
