I've been a volunteer at a local PD for some time and today I decided to do a 'sit-along' where I was able to sit alongside a dispatcher during her shift. The PD is fairly small but the city is quite large and all I have to say is after doing so is: You dispatchers are SAINTS!

How you put up with the endless amounts of stupid people calling in for an endless amount of absurd reasons is to be commended and praised. Add to that officers who may or may not intend to be difficult but end up making your jobs harder with their attitudes or how they conduct business.

So please accept the sincere admiration of an ordinary citizen. Don't get me wrong, I still rather be a cop, but not without a good dispatcher!

Thank you very much! You know, were required to do a ride along every year. It would be nice for the units to come and do a sit along once in awhile. There are many who have never had the opportunity to see what goes on inside a dispatch center. We appreciate your kind words!

While I was in 3rd phase break-in, I did a sit-along with a dispatcher in Golden Gate Communications Center. I was immediately impressed with the dispatcher with whom I was sitting. She continued our conversation as she was fulfilling the request from an officer. I was so lost, I couldn't figure out how she was doing it. Kudos to dispatchers for your multi-tasking skills, and service!

We like our sit alongs at my comm center. Try to impart some wisdom to help them on the radio and in turn it helps us :)
