Hello all,

We are looking for an additional editor and just realized that this job is the perfect one for a retired MAIT or investigator. You get to play with the latest computer gagdets, benchmark/rip apart products and write articles. If the product blows, you can tear it apart, provided you back yourself up with facts. (sorta like getting hammered by a defense attorney)

We are in Westlake Village now, but will be moving the offices to the West LA area in the coming months. Website is www.tomshardware.com.

Lemme know if you have any questions.... it's so hard to find good people these days. On our last hiring round, I helped interview several people and wondered what the hell happened to our education system... but that's another story altogether.

The listing is on craigslist now, but I've copied and pasted it here.

Oh some of the stuff we are playing with now.. just to give you an idea

Quad SLI computers (thats four graphics cards in one computer)
One GB flash drive in a credit card
Eight GB drive that clips onto your belt
20-pound 19-inch screen laptop

2. Perform thorough hardware tests and create publication-ready results in tabular, graphical or any other form required.
3. Proactively coordinate with the editors of TG Publishing?s network of sites to establish and maintain vendor relationships.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

2. Stay informed on new developments in the Internet technical community.
3. Train, mentor and occasionally monitor editorial or test lab staff
4. Manage inventory of incoming and outgoing products for evaluation, assure that products are returned to vendors in a timely manner
5. It is expected that all deadlines will be met in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct reports, but will occasionally supervise testing lab staff on a per-project basis.

Knowledge and Skills

1. Ideally, be a computer enthusiast or geek.
2. Excellent writer and verbal communicator.
3. 5-8 years of experience in editorial (ideally IT publications).
4. Deep understanding of the IT market and computer systems at the component level.
5. Knowledge of and real-world experience with testing involving PC computers down to the component level ? performance testing experience is a must.
6. Ability to use testing equipment such as voltage meters, temperature and sound level sensing devices, luminance meters and system status measuring tools.
7. Ability to use professional photographic equipment and perform image editing
8. Self-motivated in scheduling articles and ensuring that deadlines are met.

Resumes submitted without cover letters will not be considered. Please submit 3 writing samples.

I agree, unless he means 20 British Pounds Sterling?: Which is equally strange.

The 20 lbs does NOT include the 3 lbs power supply

i am a little lost, what is so special about this 20 pound one compared to an alienware that comes in at... i just checked 15 lbs with the battery.
by the way i mentioned my laptop above and it is also an alienware, almost four years old and still going strong, it is a little heavy but that is what you get when you buy a desktop with a battery:razz:

here is a link to the new alienware

i am sorry to keep dragging this topic along, but the alienware that i linked is also a 19 inch screen...

also please keep us updated on some of those other projects, they sound really interesting

P.S. I know what you mean about bragging rights, when i got my alienware i used to have people bugging me about it all the time, that is those people who knew what it actually was
