(BCN) DIXON A Solano County California Highway Patrol officer had to be hospitalized Tuesday after his vehicle was rear-ended after he stopped to assist a disabled vehicle along Interstate Highway 80 in Dixon.
The collision occurred at 4:19 p.m., as the officer was sitting in his patrol car on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 just west of A Street in Dixon, according to CHP Public Information Officer M.A. Williford.
The officer had pulled over to help a vehicle that had stopped in the center divider when the driver of another car, traveling in the fast lane, approached and stopped short to avoid the two stopped vehicles. It then skidded into the center divider and slammed into the CHP officer's car at approximately 35 mph, Williford said.
The officer's car was moderately damaged and the officer was taken away by ambulance with "possible back injuries," according to Williford.
The driver of the car that struck the officer's car was not injured, nor was his vehicle damaged, and the man was not found to be intoxicated, Williford reported.
An investigation is still under way, Williford said.
I hope he's alright.
