My husband received his Conditional Commitment to Hire yesterday! I've been lurking around as a guest on these boards for a while now, learning a LOT about the hiring process after the QAP, so I thought that here would be a perfect place to ask a question that has come up.

He's in the process of completing his PHS. In the credit section, does he need to list all of the accounts that I (his wife) have open, or just the accounts that he is responsible for? Of course he has to include all of his individual and joint accounts, but what about "authorized user" accounts? I have quite a few accounts that are open but old and unused or closed (most of which are still under my maiden name) which his name isn't even listed under (I also have a few "authorized user" accounts that belong to my parents). Should he include every account that is in my credit report, or just what will show in his?

All of the accounts in question are in flawless standing, so it's not as if he would be "hiding" anything.

Thanks for your help!

My sister and I each have an emergency credit card from our parents, and I listed it. For one thing, it shows up on my credit report! Glad mom & dad pay bills on time!

On the topic of credit history....I suggest everyone request a copy of your history/rating every year or so. I was amazed to see how many people checked on mine without my knowledge.

If he's an "authorized user" on an account, it will show up on his credit history - list it. Better safe than sorry, especially since they're all in good standing.

I also agree heartily with SB 405's advice.

What about accounts that are ONLY under my name (his wife) -- should he list all of mine?

The directions for that portion say, "List all acounts... involving you or your spouse, prior credit or closed accounts shall be listed. You must list all current and prior debts."

The directions seem fairly clear here...

You can get a free credit report from the three credit Bureaus, (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) once a year from www.annualcreditreport.com Unlike all other websites this is truly free. No credit card or anything is required. Actually there is a bug in the equifax report that allows you to view it as many times as you want.

IMO that's better than requesting such personal information by mail or paying some other, more often than not, shady, website for it. It doesn't include a credit score but you'll get to see everything on your credit report.

As Dipmo said, follow the directions -- and remember to list closed accounts as well, that may take some homework.

Simple matter of ordering a copy of your credit report. I'd highly recommend it to every applicant. It's something you could potentially be grilled about, so it's a good idea of knowing what's there.

I was just wondering, will your credit history DQ you from getting hired if you have bad credit?

I've been wondering the same thing.

It can, depending on the circumstances. It will be considered along with everything else in the big picture.
