Hi all,

After I stopped running last wednesday, I started experiencing slight pain around the achilles tendon of my right foot. It definitely was not sharp pain, but I could still feel it especially when walking up the stairs at home. The next day, the pain was minimal and I decided to go running. I wasn't bothered by the pain while running the next day, but it came back once I got home...was worse than the day before.

So, I stopped running for three days while I put ice on it and rested. Yesterday, I didn't have any pain whatsoever (even when walking up the stairs), so after stretching for 15 minutes, I went back running. Well guess what, the pain is back!

One thing I realized this time around while running is that I was running on the side of the road which has an incline. I believe this may have been the cause of the pain I started experiencing. The incline may have caused my right foot to roll inward (like over-pronation) which caused excessive strain on the achilles tendon. My left foot is completely unaffected.

I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow, but I was wondering if any of you have experienced this before. If so, do you have any suggestions?

Thank you!

My achilles started hurting me at the academy somewhere around week 15. I was having a difficult time walking around because of how sore it was. I still have no idea how it happened. The soreness went away after about a week. Take care of yourself. I hope you feel better.

I don't end up in what I'd call real pain, but I feel something there while running with an incline on the road. Let me know what the doctor says.......maybe I'm just imagining it, and it's all because I'm not running enough!

Thanks, Nellie. I hope it goes away as well. I've done quite a bit of research on the net these past two days to learn about this "condition."

It seems like rest is the best antidote. Also, gel heel cups and insoles are recommended. I bought one of each, I'll give them a try...Just like you though, I don't know where this pain is really coming from, as I've been running the same route for the past three weeks!

uoplax13,

I'll definitely post an update after the doctor's visit. One of the cause of achilles tendinitis is excessive uphill or stairs running.

I have some similar pain -- started with the Academy -- still get it occasionally after running and long days in boots. I'm in a room with two Doctors who recently graduated from Med School and they say the standard answer is "rest and ice." If you really want to know what is going on, you're going to need to see an orthopedic surgeon.

dw,

That's what my doc recommended as well, rest and ice. Since there is no tenderness to the touch, it's a good sign. No running for ten days, then start with a fast walk for a day, a slow jog the next, and if pain free finally back to running.

He also said to take some Advil for the next two weeks as I do have some tenderness underneath the heel...it feels irritated.

uoplax,

If your tendon is not tender to the touch, then rest seems to be the remedy. If it is, you might want to go see a doctor, as continued strain on it (even if it doesn't hurt that muh) can cause rupture.

Take care!
