GET SLEEP. Dress well. Have a good breakfast. Wouldnt kill you to go online and research common gramatical structure errors. Write a practice essay. Be prepared to write an essay in a short ammount of time. Uhm, other then that, just make sure you have your ID and letter
good luck.

Also curious as my test is in about 3 weeks...do I need to dress nicely. I heard it was casual but am unsure. I suppose slacks and a button up won't hurt? What about the hair/beard?
Thanks

If you want the part, look the part. You never know who will be there watching.

I worked at the local county office which administered tests for the state, come to think of it I wouldn't be surprised if my written was there. Every test I had witnessed (and I actually took two there, the CHSPE) it consisted of 2-4 people sitting at a desk in the front of all the people testing who were sitting at desks, much like a school classroom, one of which would say aloud the directions of the test, and tell us when to start stop and write on a board during the test how much time we had left. The others would usually help hand out the tests and monitor those taking the test. I can't imagine any possibility that the way you look during the test would have an affect on the outcome, but I need to know from somebody who actually can say "it does" or "it doesn't" matter.
I don't think during my QAP or PAT somebody will say "you're that guy that took the test with the long hair and beard" and give me a hard time but to be honest I doubt I'd be recognizable.
What I am getting at is this, I have been growing my precious hair for years. I love everything about it, it's become a signature of mine. However, the moment I conceived the though that I was indeed going to grow it out I knew a time would come when I'd need to cut it for some reason. The time is fastly approaching and I want to be sure if I need to cut it in a couple of weeks or if I can have one last month with my hair. Considering I am absolutely 100% dedicated to becoming a CHP officer I know that this will quite possibly be the last time until I retired I could have long hair. So there is sentament...
I am sure I sound ridiculous to a few of you, and I can understand that, I'll look the part, I just want to know when it is neccisary if I should let it go before the written I'll call up my girlfriend this week and schedule an appointment...

Why are you scheduling an appointment with your girlfriend? I thought you were worrying about your hair:lol:

Business attire for the written is not required. Dress casually. Don't be late and make sure you have your ID and necessary papers with you.

haha, I should have phrased that differently.
I grew my hair completely against the wishes of my girlfriend for 2 years straight, she complained every day about it. I figure, I'll score a few "brownie points" if I let her think she is is control...
Therefore I'll have her schedule the appointment to get my hair "done", whatever that means.

It means you're paying way too much for a haircut! Places that "do" hair charge a lot more than places that "cut" hair.

I completly understand about the hair! Back when I didn't care what department I wound up working for, I actually chose not to apply to CHP because I didn't want to cut it off for the academy! I don't even do a ponytail for working out (there would be a picture here, currently uploaded on photobucket, but I have no clue what to do to get it here). Then I learned a little about CHP & realised the hair would grow back after graduation. I'm not cutting it until I'm accepted. In the meantime, I put it in a bun for testing purposes.
On ride-alongs, I quickly learned that short/bun hair is a GOOD thing. 1st time I got out of the car, the wind turned me into instant medusa. I pulled out a rubber band & made a (yuck) ponytail, but that only concentrated it, whipping it hard into the eyes. It took quite awhile to brush out all the tangles.
I wore a skirt to my written...and FROZE. But, the test was in Monterey, which is always freezing. The standard dress I was was khakis & polos.
I 'do' hair for my dad, brother, & boyfriend free of charge. Stop by if you are in the area & I'll be happy to help!

I worked with a guy who thought the same thing... It didn't. Probably less of a risk for you, though.
