IMHO,

Much ado about nothing. These P.O.s probably didn't (and still don't) know this woman. It was probably a situation where a civilian asked if they can take a picture with them. They agreed in the spirit of Service and for good public relations. At the last second, the lady but her hand on the Chippie on the left and the picture was snapped.

When they started this story as saying it was an "inappropriate picture," I expected something MUCH worse than two Chippies interacting in a positive way with a member of the public and satisfying a request for a picture.

I suppose no more pictures should be taken with the general public for fear that, if the tourist uses the picture in a way that the powers that be find objectionable, you'll wind up paying for it.

I guess the days of happily taking a snapshot with a tourist are over.

I like your un-edited post... "Oops!". Because that was an "Oops!" moment.

Looks like a mannequin to me.

Hardly a more acceptable sustitute in this instance.
I have to plead for punishment. Not really appropriate pose for uniformed CHP. Were I not already fed up with the term "sensitivity training", I'd say that might be suitable, but in place of that, 3 months of distasteful duties.

Obviously an instance not for us to judge. It is in the hands of the appropriate section. I don't really see the error beyond it being posted on the internet and some liberal new organization doing their part on casting aspersions to make our officers appear in bad light!

They put themselves in a bad light. The liberal news nothwithstanding, they still performed the act in uniform.

I'm with Vinnie, it totally looks like a mannequin. Maybe Andrew McCarthy has hired them for a sequel?

I don't see why this has to be a big deal. I really doubt the officers knew the picture would end up as a Craig's List ad.

that doesn't make it right. It's not befitting.

Yes, the act of posing in uniform innappropriately.

This is why "Public Relations" is a waste of time....I think CHP should just be a bunch of hard asses and refuse pictures with anyone. I know when I become a CHP I am going to stay clear of all this crap as much as possible. Any little thing can turn into a huge issue. Ridiculous.

There's nothing wrong with public relations. PR is striking a pose befitting the office. The one at issue in this thread is not very befitting. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of sworn uniformed officers would have balked at, if not totally refused being photographed this way. It's obviously not a terminal offense though. Their standards need a little tuning is all.

I think you're being quick to judge a "picture". You don't know all the facts. You don't know if it was photo shopped. You don't know if this woman quickly placed their hands their before the shot. You don't know the circumstances, yet you are willing to say that what they did was wrong. You say it's "obviously not a terminal offense" yet you act as though it is with several posts. Saying, "I wouldn't have done that" is much different than judging the officers for a picture without further details.

I didn't post the picture here. I haven't seen a thing anywhere that indicates there's been some framing involved.

That seems quite ridiculous

Exactly. You don't SEE or READ anything indicating a framing, yet you jump to conclusions.

That seems quite ridiculous

And so is judging a photo without the story behind it.

You're certainly able to refute my personal conclusion. Lots of photos are placed here, and there are no shortage of judgements, opinions, and conclusions on those. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any exculpatory information though.

How's that saying go, "a picture is worth a thousand words". This is a public forum. Let the opinions be that, opinions. Obama hasn't dismantled the first amendment (yet).
