I've been talking to a good friend who is interested in the CHP. His father is a CHP himself so he knows what it is all about and I'd say out of all my friends I know he is probably the only person I'd say is currently suitable for such a job. However he has a bit of a negative background. He has a quite a few traffic violations (3 speeding tickets and he blew a stop sign) he also got a misdemeanor for skateboarding in a public park. I think they've all been within the past two years but what I think the real cut-off for him is that he got a minor in possesion of alocohol and drunk in public when he was in San Luis Obispo visiting a high-school friend that was attending Cal-Poly. They made the mistake of moving their group outside and apparently he had a seat on the curb when a police officer drove by and singled him out. All of his tickets were paid, the misdemeanor for skateboarding at the park was "dismissed" and he did 8 hours of community service for it, the MIP and Drunk in public was also cleared from his record but nothing is ever "cleared" when you're a background investigator.
He really is a good honest guy and he has learned a lot from his mistakes, extremely hard working however he made a few (or should I say several) stupid mistakes, in addition to a bit of mis-fortune in his timing.
He has been asking me for advice and although I think I know what you guys are going to say what is your advice to me to tell to him?
I mentioned but I'm not sure if this is smart, could he just get his application sent out and the written out of the way and hold off on the rest until he has a little bit of time to clean his record?
It would be awfully nice to have a friend to go through the process with me but I'm afraid it won't happen
thanks
