Well I have decided to apply to the CHP. But I am a little worried about my BI. When I was 18 I moved to NV because my father said he had a job that would pay me $20.00 an hour(Needless to say that wasnt the case). Well after a few months the company went bottoms up me and the other employees were out of a job and to top it off we handnt been paid in 6 weeks(it was a Construction Company). My dad up and decicdes that he needs to go elk hunting for a month in Utah so I was left to care for 15yr Type 2 diabetic brother and care for my 8yr old Half-sister when she wasnt at school and her mom wasnt at school.

My father returns saying that hes going to start up his own Construction business and wants my help(big mistake:mad:). He asks me to buy him some office software and other office/computer supplies. It runs me up about $1000 dollars. He told me not to worry that he would pay the cards when things got going:biggrin:shock:ubt: . We had a falling out hes is/was an alcoholic/drug abuser so my brother and I moved back in with my mother. Trouble is he never paid the debts so i have a few bad marks on my credit report, but i also have a few good ones. I've been trying to collect money from him but to no avail so i'm left to pay for the cards myself i'm waiting on the bills(He had me keep the billing address at his house so he could pay them off  ).
I dont think it would be that hard to pay off the debt but i am currently unemployed and am planning on going to the Community College this fall. I had a couple minimum wage jobs but i didnt make much money.

For those who do not wish to read my rant:

*Bad marks on Credit report Some good ones also

*Bad Choices

*Wondering how much it will affect me in the application process

The STUPIDEST thing I ever did, seriously bad judgement, was loan a former boss money to keep the business from going under a few years back. Thought I was doing it for the kids (I was a gymnastics coach)...but who was looking out for me? Stupid stupid stupid!

My credit report has a bad spot that isn't even mine. It's my ex husband's. The company admitted the mistake, but the outfit that makes the credit reports refused to change it. So there it stays. Easy enough to explain to the BI, but what's going to happen when I want to buy a house?

Background investigators are smart, and this is to your advantage. They know that 99% of us have not spent our lives sealed off from people that make us look bad. Explain the situation, let them do their investigation, and it will be apparent to them who's right & who's wrong.

Good luck! Enjoy college; it's a lot of fun!

Although you have a reasonable explanation for the negative credit history, you should probably take care of the debt ASAP. I understand you may not have the funds now, but maybe check out a debt consolidation program or similar.

It's not my debt. It's my ex husband's, and he took care of it YEARS ago. He was just late with a car payment. I don't do that debt thing. I spend less than I make & recently began putting the rest in mutual funds. That way I'm the one earning the interest, not paying it.
