Anyone know if Jim Van Horn is still teaching at the academy? I knew him when he was at the Humboldt office, but I haven't had contact with him since he transferred to the Capitol. Last I heard he was instructing at the range.

That's great. Will be good to see him again, great guy. I looked up to him as a kid, both figuratively and literally. Hope to find an appropriate time to shake his hand and say hello [sir].

I saw him about a week ago while I was up there. We talked for quite awhile, and I can assure you that he doesn't plan on going anywhere in the near future. He's not too tough to find and he's always willing to spend time chatting with a friend.

Luckily I was smart enough to be in his group on taser day. Still in my top three for worst days of my life.

Awesome Instructor. I can still hear his voice ringing in my ears. I think he should be an MIO with a voice like his.

I mostly encountered him in church...he was a lot quieter there, but no less in command of the ground beneath his feet or the respect of those around him.

As for shotty vs. rifle...my rifle is somewhere deep in a closet locked up, while the Mossberg is behind my side of the headboard every night. Just have to unlearn the thumb reach for the tang safety on the Mossy and replace that muscle memory with a finger on the trigger-guard cross-bolt safety on the Rem. I think the release lever is in a slightly different spot as well.

Anyway, can't think of a person I'd rather have as my weapons instructor than Jim Van Horn. See you on the range cadets!
