Thought this was interesting. A while back, after my BI cleared me and I finished the process, my BI said they were cutting the # of cadets being invited to the academy. She said thankfully that the CHP was still hiring, but that they needed about 90 graduating cadets to keep up with attrition. I noticed this on the CHP Website today...Glad to know I was cleared when I was...sounds like it's getting pretty tough these days. I hope this doesn't last too long, as I am sure some junior officers are counting on these new cadets of the future for seniority . Man does this recession suck!

As of December 24, 2009, the California Highway Patrol
will only be accepting online applications in each CHP DIVISION
during the following limited Pacific Standard Time periods:

Opening Date for Applying:
07/08/10, 8:00AM
09/09/10, 8:00AM
Closing Date for Applying:
07/10/10, 12:00PM
09/11/10, 12:00PM

I hope this doesn't get derailed into hiring questions.

Law enforcement agencies are known for changing constantly. I don't plan on applying any time soon so I'm not worried. As much as I love the agency I still believe on not putting all your eggs in one basket.

After witnessing 450 applicants show up for the last GG Division PAT. I can understand why.

All I can say is hope I can make the cut. 35 is coming way to fast for me.

So the moral of the story (at least for those not already in the process) is to apply now. As in, right now. Application deadline is tonight at midnight, per the bulletin at http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/docs/cadet_testing_schedule.pdf

If you're not ready now, you're gonna be waiting a long time just to apply, so there you go. I can imagine that the number of applicants next year during the brief acceptance window could potentially crash the submission server, so it might be wise to plan accordingly...

So if I'm reading that right, there's only a 2 month window per year for the entire state? That's quite a restriction.

hmmm, I got cleared a month ago from everything, I hope this doesn't affect me getting into the 2nd academy of 2010, interesting.... and not thrilled at the same time to read about cutting. :hitwall:

Actually there are two "open filing" periods for the entire year. Each of those is less than 48 hours...

Maybe I'm just reading it wrong or something, but this seems an awful lot like it's directly related to the CHP hiring process. You may want to read this thread: http://www.chpforums.com/forum/announcement.php?f=42&a=13 to refresh your recollection that questions and/or discussion of the hiring process is currently not allowed at CHPForums.
