Lately I've seen more cruisers with the newer light bars. I must say I'm really digging them so far!

Hate to say this...but the new LED's remind of me Arizona Highway Patrol's cruisers.

Well, IF you used them on a daily basis, you would understand why we are very welcoming of the new Whelen light bars; they are good stuff.

I definitely can see units pulled over the roadside easier compared to the old style.

We finally got two the other day, but you probably won't see them that much as they are Sgt. and Lt. cars for now.

You would be a fan if you used them every day. There is a huge difference and these lights are much safer for not only us as officers, but the public because they make us way more visible.

If it had been up to me, I probably would have gone with an Arjent SL or a Legend. But that's just me. I'm a Federal Signal kind of guy.

I haven't noticed any in the WLA area.

I saw my first one around the other day (i think right before Christmas, if i recall...)

It also surprises me that I've only seen ONE CHP Charger, and it was in Western San Bernardino County, on the 210.

Drove by the WLA office today and took a look in the lot...nothing. However I did notice no shortage of wrecked patrol cars.

Wonder how many of them were wrecked by rookies .

That's because we're still testing them out, and they're not widely distributed. Crown Vic is still our only official patrol sedan.

If I owned a bar I'd buy that thing. Mount it on the wall and turn it on a few hours before last call. That might make some stop and think.

Spotted one today on my way to PT on base at noon. He was on the shoulder NB I-5 @ Division. As far as looks go.. thumbs down. I'm sure they're practical and officers like 'em. I'm a bit biased though 'cause I've always preferred slick tops (again as far as looks go.)

Sounds interesting. Does anyone have a photo of the new light bars? I haven't had the opportunity to see one yet.

Spending my first 23 years in CA, those just dont look right on a CHP unit . If they are anything like what we have on our AZDPS units though, they are BRIGHT, and should increase officer safety.

Funny...I've had more than double your years in CA and for the longest time anything but a slicktop just didn't look "CHP" to me. I remember how shocking to the senses these early bars were when they first came out:

Still can't beat the old effect of the CA. version red/blue F/S Twinsonic.

Does anyone else remember the slight whistle it made at certain speeds from the wind?

Just give the new light bars a chance. We have been using LED's down here for the longest. Ours is a little thicker than your's, and you will appreciate the "Takedowns" on the light bar. They work killer in conjunction with the spotlight.

The whistle I remember was at about 70 mph...
