If anybody on this board has gone through this process, knows about the process, please post up.

1. How long does the process take?

2. How much does the applicant have to pay out of his/her pocket?

3. Probablity of appeal winning?

Thank you.

Yeah. This thread title is more specific and straight to the point. Also, if someone needs to appeal down the line, they would be able to find this thread easier through the search function.

No I haven't. CHP is the only Law Enforcement Agaency I am interested in.

Are you suggesting that I do?

alec, contact the recruitment section at C.H.P. Headquaters in Sacramento or the division recruitment office where you live and ask them how to appeal it. Most likely you will have to pay for a private evaluation on your own.

Mary, thank you for your responce.

I understand that I will have to pay for a private evaluation. I am wondering about a ball park figure and timeframe.

There was some good info on chp.net with first hand accounts of the process, but it does not seem like anyone current on the forums has appealed.

Thanks again.

This actually isn't specific for CHP, but I did go through a short psych appeal with LAPD. An appeal that I cut off after the first private evaluation.

When the department psych DQs you, it doesn't mean you are crazy. It just means you don't fit the department's psych profile. You could take another department's psych and pass with flying colors.

I had just turned 21 when I applied for the LAPD. Made it all the way to the psch and was DQ for life experience. I started the appeal process and had a private evaluation. It was expensive!!! Something like $400 bucks. It was about a 1 1/2 hour chat and the doctor had the LAPD eval in front of her. She told me that LAPD thought I was a great candidate, but that I needed a few more years of job/life experience. So I stopped the appeal.

She said a full appeal would cost $2000-$3000, with no guarantee of success.

Was I pissed at the time. Yes
Was LAPD correct. Yes
Am I glad I wasn't hired at that time - HELL YES.

Often you can't see the whole picture until several years after the fact. Police departments trust you to drive a car, carry a gun, baton, pepper, taser, etc etc. The liability is tremendous. They have to weed out as many marginal candidates as they can.
