It seems there are ways to post articles without violating copyright laws.

For example, I found an article recently posted to CHPforums directly on a "hosted" link of the Associated Press here:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...MPLATE=DEFAULT (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_SNIPER_EXECUTION?SITE=NYSAR&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT)

Towards the bottom is a link to http://license.icopyright.net/images/icopy-g.gif Click Here for Copyright permissions! (http://license.icopyright.net/3.5721?icx_id=D9BT30202)

It allows posting the article in its entirety FOR FREE with a banner ad for 30 days.

On the preview the AP confirms that they do not allow copy and pasting the text of articles:

You may NOT cut-copy-paste the article and publish it on your website.

Or, you can just comply with the request of the site administrator.

I apologize Snowdog. I searched for but could not find a rule, sticky or anything else from DW or any other mod. The only thing I remember seeing was this thread (http://www.chpforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8524&highlight=copyright) by PapaBear with a recommendation more than anything else:

Be very careful when you cut and paste an article that may be copyrighted from a news source.

Another forum that I frequent was recently challenged by the Associate Press for reproducing published articles without the proper permission of the AP and for not posting the article in its entirety - Author, date, etc.

It is much better to paraphrase the article and post a link to the site hosting the article than to take a chance that the AP, UPI, Times, Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc might file an action against anyone here.

Just a thought to prevent action.

There is a sticky in the LE News / Current Events forum.

http://www.chpforums.com/forum/announcement.php?f=52&a=17

It debuted a few weeks ago with little to no fanfare.

Interesting bit of info in relation to this subject,

Most, if not all of the news that affects us is relayed to us via media that copyright their products. Much of the "breaking news" that the media gets is from public entities such as law enforcement organizations and government officials which are obligated to release the info to the public domain without encumbering it with copyright restrictions. Now here's the sad part:
The public sources of the news (law enforcement, politicians, an other government entities) restrict the press conferences where the hot breaking news is released to pretty much only news media that copyright their material....and are free to choose which portions they wish to write, and how they wish to relay it to their subscribers/readers/listeners etc.
So you know how many people in law enforcement complain about bias by the main stream media when they report stories involving cops vs the public or cops vs suspects? Well, it's pretty much a self inflicted wound when they limit the distributors of their information to those that have repeatedly shown that bias.

That's where cops shows come in. I haven't watched one yet where the po po like the media. Usually they express disdain right before the reporter gets within earshot. Humor is usually based in part on fact.
