The color is silvertan, by the way...

Many officers wear a tie or turtleneck in the field. Bow ties are for motors, and some do wear them on patrol. I wear my Campaign Cover (aka Smokey-the-Bear hat) sometimes as well. To answer the question, yes, they may be worn during road patrol.

I wear my smokey in the summer all the time. The straw version is much more comfortable than the felt. I do wear my tie with long sleeves. Some guys raise an eye brow, but I like the tie. The snowsuit is the best uniform. Lots of pockets, windproof, waterproof and wash and wear is a lot of cheaper to maintain.

Don't think I have seen any officers on the road who wear a tie, a bow tie, or their campaign/smokey the bear cover other than special cirumstances. Can these items be worn in the field or only for major events? Personally, I like the GQ look of a tie but nothing beats the blue uniforms I see the commercial officers wearing.

I prefer the khaki, myself.

I like to call them pinks; that's what they were modeled after originally.

Don't those Officers wear jump suits? You think that looks better than the tan uniforms?

I think the winter gear looks pretty slick.....of course that's all they've been wearing up here until very recently!

No kidding? You're not supposed to call it khaki? Hm, guess you learn something new every day!

Aaaaahhh, the days of donning the blue tie and long sleeve shirts from November to April... Or, better yet, green jackets at civil disturbances... OK, the green jacket part was before my time, but the "winter uniform" wasn't... Glad those days are gone!

...Bow ties are for motors...
At first glance, I really thought you were going somewhere else with that...

i dig the turtlenecks and the coveralls, too. my husband was a nuclear mechanic, so i am all too familiar with coveralls. i think they're kind of sexy, ha. :shock:ops: of course i guess that goes without saying about almost any uniform out there. i drove by a collision the other day and three guys were out there. i thought i was going to run up on the curb taking a second look, haha.

On the topic of uniforms:

When are regular patrol officers allowed to wear the blue uniforms? When I went on my ridealong, I noticed that a couple of them were wearing the blues and some were wearing tans. It was raining if that makes any difference.

I think that commercial enforcement and K-9 officers wear the blue, and other officers wear the tan.

Commercial, K-9 and any officer working a special detail (allowing the use) can wear blue uniforms. Some area offices are designated cold weather areas. Officers assigned to those areas can wear the winter uniform (snow suit) during winter months. The snow suits are also blue.

From a foreigner point of view, I like the silver tan uniform with blue strip on trouser. I also like the campaign hat but I prefer the previous cap, smarter I think. And WOW, when you wear the green Ike jacket during ceremonies, it is very smart too. For my part, the other nicer looking uniform is the Mass. SP French and Elecric blue one.
I also want to say, american police uniforms are very high quality compare to french ones.
Btw, I am completing a Sgt. uniform to wear along when I attend cars shows with my Vic.
I still need a pant (size 44 regular) ans shirts (size 17 1/2 with patches sewn on); I also need a straw hat with sgt cords could someone help ?
I could buy them for a fair price, used but in good condition items are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Any reply ?
Be assured I'll wear the uniform only during car shows with proud to honor CHP, it is my only purpose.
If you need more information about my situation in France, feel free to ask.

With all due respect, you will probably not get any cooperation in obtaining a uniform of the CHP without permission of the Commissioner; since that is the requirement as dictated by law. Retired personnel are not even authorized to wear the uniform once their retirement takes effect - except, burial after death.

I don't think the Commissioner has any authority in France.
