Without getting overly-confident, I'm getting all of my documents together for my BI which will hopefully start shortly after the next round of tests out of Valley Division. I have just about everything together- copies of diplomas from grad school and college, and transcripts from high school, college, and grad school, but I can't find my high school diploma. I'm not giving up the search....I still have plenty of time, but just in case, is not having a copy of my high school diploma going to kill me? I have everything else on the list, but am trying to gauge how much I should be freaking out looking for it...and yes , I'm working out/running, not nearly enough yet, but getting there.

I was on the last round of testing out of Valley and I'm still waiting for my BI to start so you may have more time than you think (my packet did switch divisions though). Find the diploma, go to your old high school and obtain it if you must, but get it. You should be able to call the school and get instructions on getting a replacement if all else fails.
Good luck this time, you're going to nail it!

.....but I can't find my high school diploma. ..... I didn't have mine either. I informed my BI on the intial phone call that set up the Initial interview and he stated it should not be an issue, as long as I had the HS transcripts which showed I had the credits.
Good Luck!

my husband was told he absolutely needed either an official copy of the diploma or an official copy of the transcripts. we had unofficial copies of both, but he had to get the official, sealed copy of his transcripts, which was a pain to do 3000 miles away. at least our high school doesn't keep copies of any diplomas.

I'm sure I'll take LOTS of heat for this in my final background interview. I had thought I'd be asked atthe initla, but like I said before, CHP does it different from the previous agency I was backgrounded by...
I was never sent my HS diploma, and the high school doesn't care! You have to turn in your textbooks or they don't send it, right? Well, last day of school senior year, we had a sub in math. She said to just put the books in a pile, they'd get checked in by the teacher sometime, and don't worry, they were replacing them anyway. I was a tad concerned, after all, it's my diploma! Well, a few weeks later, instead of a diploma, I get a bill for the unreturned math book! It was promptly paid, and I was told they'd send the diploma. It never showed up, but I hardly noticed, as I was busy with all those post-high school life changes, and no employer ever asked. Well, fast forward 13 years. I don't have a copy of my diploma, and while the schol is happy to sell me a transcript, they say NO on the diploma. They keep telling me a transcript is just as good, and I keep telling them no it's not, I'm not transferring to uni here, I'm applying for a job with CHP. a VERY competitive hiring process! They just don't understand! I've been grappling with them over this for about a year and a half every time I need a transcript. I'm really worried that he mistake of that sub all those years ago will bring me down. I'm not the type to blame others, but where did I go wrong here???

like i said, my husband didn't have a diploma and just used the official, sealed transcripts saying he had graduated.

Thanks, I still have some time to look for it, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask. My transcripts definately show me as graduated, and the other diplomas I have would have been a little difficult to come by wihtout having graduated high school.....we'll see. I just want to be able to say "Yes sir/ma'am, I have absolutely everything you need to start my BI." .........very much ready to have a real job...speaking of which, I should get back to "work"!
Definitely contact your school (exhaust all options) and try and get a copy. If, in the end, you can't get one, at least you can say you made an effort.

I have. I have been since that last background for another department. In lieu of a diploma, he'll get the name of the person in the records office I've been locking horns with all this time:mad:
