Anyone familiar with Merced County should know about the Y. I'm just curious if anyone knows why they call it the Y? Someone said they thought it was because of how Highway 152 and Highway 33 meet. Which sounds great, but they weren't sure on the facts. I was just thinking about it and am curious. I really didn't find any information when I googled it. I was hoping maybe some of you on the forums that work(ed) the area might know.

I don't "work" the area, but have driven 152 many times to go to Monterey. I have heard that referred to as the "Y" because of the 33 meeting the 152. Maybe one of the uniforms knows more...

Probably for the same reason SR-89 at US-50 is called the Y... from overhead, the intersection comes together kind of like a Y.

I knew we'd talk again... Your answer is Yes (as you know I worked all of Merced County for some time)... It looks a little like a "Y" from overhead, but more like a crooked "T". The name "Dos Palos Y" was created long ago and it stuck. One of the few "Old Time Names" Merced County still has...
