The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit would like to invite you to attend and participate in the 2009 WSPCA End of the Year K9 Trial. The trial will consist of Narcotics, EOD and Patrol competitions.

Duty uniforms or department-authorized clothing is to be worn during the competition. Under no circumstances will firearms be allowed on the field of competition. No shake chains, pinch collars, E-collars, keys, pagers, cell phones, toys, etc. will be allowed for control of your K9. Only one collar will be allowed while K9 is competing. All collars will be inspected.

The narcotics competition will consist of vehicle and building searches.

Patrol Competition
Saturday, November 7th, 2009
0700 hrs …………………………... Check In/Agility Practice
0800 hrs …………………………... Handlers Meeting
0815 hrs …………………………... Patrol Competition Begins
The patrol competition will consist of Agility, Protection, and Obedience phases. The agility course will be set up Friday evening, so feel free to come by for familiarization. Somebody will be present to assist you. It will also be available for practice early on the morning of the trials. The protection phase will be revealed on the day of the competition and no protection training will be allowed after the competition begins.

Novice/Class "A" division

$50.00 per entry
Narcotics/ EOD and Patrol Competition
$65.00 per entry
Narcotics & EOD Competition Only

CATEGORIES
OPEN: (handler and dog full time law enforcement working dog team)
NOVICE: Full-time law enforcement working dog team, certified for law enforcement
duties for no more than one year.
CLASS A: (competes only against other Class A teams)
a. Retired K9s (any dog that was a former street certified law enforcement K9)
b. Reserve K9s (dog is trained to a level of working law enforcement K9 but has not yet been assigned or deployed as a working dog in a full-time capacity. Handler must be either a regular or reserve officer.)
c. On call K9s (dog who is certified for use on streets, but is not working in a full-time capacity, and is primarily used on an on-call basis. Handler must be either a regular or reserve officer)
SEARCH PHASE
The search will consist of an area search, or a building search. The decoy will be a mature person. All handlers will be sequestered. Handlers will not be allowed to touch the containers during the search. There will be a maximum time of 90 seconds to locate the decoy.

OBEDIENCE PHASE
Obedience will be called by a steward with recognized turns and signals. Hand signals and distraction items may be used during the obedience phase.

Right/Left About Turn Down/Sit/Recall
Fast/Slow/Normal Heel
No control devices will be used.

AGILITY PHASE

The agility course may consist of the following obstacles. There may be some obedience commands during the agility phase (i.e. down/sit/stay on an obstacle):
1. Three-foot Bar Jump 6. Window jump - through
2. 5 Foot wall 7. Hollow barrel jump - through
3. Ladder climb 8. Three barrel jump
4. Teeter totter 9. Barrel sit
5. Elevated platform - sit or down

PROTECTION PHASE

To be announced on the day of the trial. Protection may include scenarios to test the dog’s courage and environmental situations.

Awards will be given in the following classes:
SHERIFF’S TROPHY Top Dept. Team AGILITY OPEN 1st - 5th
OVERALL OPEN 1st - 5th PROTECTION OPEN 1st - 5th
OVERALL NOVICE 1st - 3rd CLASS A OVERALL 1st *
OVERALL CLASS A 1st EOD OVERALL 1st - 5th *
SEARCH OPEN 1st - 5th NARCOTICS OVERALL 1st - 5th *
OBEDIENCE OPEN 1st - 5th
(Narcotics & EOD category awards will also be given, i.e. building, vehicle, luggage)
* depending on number of entries
There will be an awards banquet and raffle held following the patrol competition on Saturday. The awards banquet and raffle will be held immediately following the end of the patrol competition.
Two dinner tickets are included with the entry fee. Guest tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Please order extra tickets in advance so that we have plenty of food.
