Hello everyone,

I'm still relatively new to this forum. I was curious if anyone knew what the QAP score is based on specifically? Basically, what are the sections they have to score? I assume its a combination of factual things like background and criminal history coupled with how YOU performed during the interview. If anyone can shedf some light on this I would appreciate it.

Not to be a jerk about it, but

* It goes without saying that any discussion of QAP questions and/or content will not be tolerated. Don't ask. (http://www.chpforums.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=872)

But we CAN tell you...
Check toward the back of the "You & your interview" pamphlet. It's in there. The Applicant study guide has other things.

Telling what questions you were asked is the BIG no-no. After my 1st QAP, somebody asked me out in the parking lot as I was leaving and he was arriving:shock:ops: I just said 'piece of cake' and kept on going!

Actually, Red, my question was not about the content nor the questions ;)

My question was about grading. Im mostly curious if grading is based on what you answer or how you answer. If its public knowledge, great, if not, oh well, simple curiousity.

I can live without knowing

Micah,

It sounds like you're looking for a formula used to score the interviews. You're not going to find that, but to answer your question about what you answer versus how, the answer is both. The content of an answer certainly matters, as does the presentation. Law enforcement requires command presence and the ability to assert yourself. What candidate do you think would leave the best impression on the panel? a) the applicant who is overly timid and may be difficult to hear. b) the applicant who gives the impression of being arrogant. c) the applicant who appears confident in his/her statements.

On the other hand, if you go in and confidently state that you drove a stolen car to the interview, there may be a problem -- clearly the content matters as well. Yes, this is an extreme example to illustrate my point, but you get the drift...

Again, everything is evaluated in terms or severity and recency and above all else, be completely honest.

I know I plug this thing almost too much, but get the applicant study guide from the CHP website. It has a ton on info about the QAP. While it does not disclose the scoring formula it gives great tips.

Also search for a post here called QAP help. It has a link that you may find helpful.

Good luck
