Modesto CHP officer rolls car on West Side

A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Wednesday night near Grayson after he lost control of his car and it rolled two or three times before coming to a stop, officials reported.
The officer suffered a cut to his head and other injuries but was alert and conscious, said officer Chuck Leon, a CHP public information officer.
Leon said the officer was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto as a precaution.

The officer was southbound on River Road a half mile south of Oaklea Road about 9:30 p.m. when he lost control of his car coming through a curve, Leon said. The car left the east side of the road, crossed a small irrigation ditch, entered a field and rolled two or three times.
Officials did not release the officer's name, but Leon said he is assigned to the CHP's Modesto office and has been with the CHP for a little more than a year. Leon said he does not know whether the officer has experience with other law enforcement agencies.
According to CHP dispatch, the officer was not working a call at the time of the accident.
"We don't know at this point if he was trying to overtake another vehicle or trying to catch a speeding vehicle," said Leon, adding the investigation has not been completed.
