Television celebrity Erik Estrada made a guest appearance Friday afternoon in the Lompoc Police Department and Special Olympics Car Show and Cruise, riding in several cars along the cruise route before hopping out to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the crowd. In the photo above left, Julie Trigueiro of Lompoc had her picture taken with Estrada while holding her Estrada-signed September 1979 edition of Tiger Beat magazine. The cruise began Friday with more than 160 vehicles cruising downtown Lompoc; and the chrome-and-carburetor fun continues today, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ryon Park, with the car show.

I've met Eric several times, and he's good people. Very pro CHP. He's actually gone through part of the CHP Academy at least once, and maybe a couple more times, just to find out what it's like. I knew him while CHiPs was filming, but before it aired, and I talked with him many times after. He's good folks and still represents the CHP proudly as far as I'm concerned.
He probably did as much for CHP recruiting as Top Gun did for the Navy!

Hey, it looked like a sound investment  You know, the places he was peddling looked good until he started trying to sell California City. Have you ever been there? And for the record...that Tiger Beat is probably doubled in value now!

Confession...I lived there for almost 3 years! :tape: Bought a house on some property and it was great because I could go riding (mx) anytime I wanted, and it was awesome riding! Other than that it was HORRIBLE!! San Luis Obispo is much better! I still drive out there once in awhile to get some of that gooood riding :noidea:

Cal City!!! I lived there when I worked Mojave. I hear its kind of gone "dark" lately? Not the nice group, the mean, bad, nasty kind. Other than it's in the middle of nowhere, you could go hunt Jack's and snakes when the sun set, it used to be a real nice place to live. I used to start my dirtbike and ride out of my garage and go play for the day, and ride back home. For me, it was heaven!!!

That's what I'm saying! There was such a nice quality about being that far out and the quiet. I have never lived anywhere else that had such wonderful sunsets (and I live on the beach!) along with easy access to riding.
It sure has changed, but it is not as bad as one would think. Most of the crime is still minimal; usually just a bunch of bored kids with nothing better to do.

Don't get me wrong, Cal-City has its redeamable qualities. Maybe I'm just remembering my tenure working just south of 58. Anyhow, when Mr. Estrada was talking about Cal-City, there were tons of beautiful trees, parks, lakes, world class golf courses, etc., which are very contrary to what I remember. Of course, it may have changed. I was there in the early '90's. :noidea:
BTW, FWIW I loved the ATV's (and acronyms apparently) and the abundant places to ride in that area. Of course, I cannot tell the difference between Cal-City and Ocotillo Wells!

Cal City was originally dreamed of in the 40's or 50's or something like that, to be a direct competition to Palm Springs when it was first started. Cal City is something like the 2nd largest city in Ca. There are roads everywhere and sewer and electric run everywhere too. The golf course was put in to draw folks, and since it was closer to LA than Palm Springs, and close to Edwards the developer figured it would go great, so all the stuff was put in. Unfortunately, everybody went to Palm Springs.
