I've heard of people flashing their highbeems to warn others that cops were near. I would never think of doing this, as it could blind another driver and cause a wreck...but in California could one be cited for doing so?

Zanev,

Have you thought of doing any research yourself for your many questions? You may go to your local DMV and purchase your own copy of the California Vehicle Code and look up the answers to you questions there. Don't get me wrong, questions are welcome however, if law enforcement is a career you are interested in, it may be to your benefit to begin learning to answer some of the more simple questions yourself.

Just a thought.

Sounds like you knew the answer to the question... When you get your Vehicle Code, search the index. If you can't find it, look under 24409. In 0.08 seconds I was able to find information on the web using my favorite Internet search engine.

I think asking questions are great, but you really should use your available resources first. You will not be spoon-fed everything throughout your career... if you are so fortunate enough to make it through our glorious Academy.

You posted while I was typing and watching TV.

Now let me ask you a question Sack... how difficult was it for you to find that information? Seriously...

To answer the OP's question, I believe it is pretty common in the rural midwest where my cousins learned to run from the police.

I have posted this link many times before, but to assist those who are new, this link will help your research tremendously!!!

In addition, in some areas of CA, if you flash your headlights at the wrong cars, the gang bangers take offense to it and may start shooting!!!

Thank you. :rolleyes:We all have questions and this is a good place to ask. But please, do some research first before you post. I did not know I can purchase the CVC copy at the DMV. I'll be sure to pick one up and Zanev, I suggest you do the same.

Thanks everyone, with your help I found it:

24409. Whenever a motor vehicle is being operated during darkness, the driver shall use a distribution of light, or composite beam, directed high enough and of sufficient intensity to reveal persons and vehicles at a safe distance in advance of the vehicle, subject to the following requirements and limitations:

(a) Whenever the driver of a vehicle approaches an oncoming vehicle within 500 feet, he shall use a distribution of light or composite beam so aimed that the glaring rays are not projected into the eyes of the oncoming driver. The lowermost distribution of light specified in this article shall be deemed to avoid glare at all times regardless of road contour.

(b) Whenever the driver of a vehicle follows another vehicle within 300 feet to the rear, he shall use the lowermost distribution of light specified in this article.

Thanks Zanev, I don't know what I would have done with myself if you had not posted the answer.

In the spirit of making our friend zanev more self-reliant, let me just point this out... if you ever get to the background portion of the process, just remember, those guys all have access to the same internet you do, and will likely know your CHPForums username.

It was quite exhausting. First, I had to open a new window and then type in www.google.com in the address bar. Next, I had to type "California Vehicle Code" into the search bar. Believe it or not I didn't even have to click search. The link automatically popped up under the search bar and I clicked the link. I need a sandwhich now.

Get the google toolbar and you won't have to open a new window!

Okay, sounds like you've done enough work. Go ahead and take the rest of the day off.

How much are they charging these days for those huge books? Last I saw, they were $3, but that was 20 years ago.
