Ok, set you guys up on me a lil bit I'll give you my background. I'm 24 have been a LEO for 3 1/3 years at a 60+ Officer agency in Central Florida. I'm an FTO and certified in radar/laser. I have always had exceptional or outstanding evals but had two reprimands in my rookie year. One was for a traffic crash and one for insubordination (it looks bad, but I got nothing more than a written reprimand because of the nature of it). I am single and have no ties to Florida except for a mortgage, and I have family that lives in California. I have always wanted to be a CHP officer, I would be more persistent except for the fact that I have physically let myself go since I intially became a cop. I'm 6'00 and 265 lbs, and it aint muscle.
What are the physical demensions required for the CHP? I am willing to get myself back into shape to accomplish my dream.
Would my discipline hurt me in the process? Would it be a DQ?
How does the CHP help Out of State applicants through the process?
Any advice would be appreciated.

the crash and written reprimand ain't squat. If you are really serious, you might have to come out to Calif a few times, written test/ PAT and interview. I'd say if you don't decide to come out here, get to the gym and work out anyway, watch what you eat, for yourself and your health. Good luck.
DW would be the best person to answer your questions about the disciplinary issues, and I'm sure he'll respond soon. The crash shouldn't be a problem, and the insubordination will probably depend on the totality of circumstances. I'm sure DW can address the out-of-state applicant questions also. As far as the physical dimensions - you have to be able to pass the physical test, which you should be able to do if you get back in shape.

BayCity, regarding the disciplinary actions, everything is considered in terms of recency and severity. Your outstanding evaluations will be considered along with the negative actions. Will it hurt you in the hiring process, sure -- all other things being equal. Is it the end of the line? Probably not.
There are no physical dimension requirements, but you must be able to pass the Physical Ability Test. Check out the links section on the main page for the Applicant Study Guide and other references. The 500-yard run is what gets most applicants. If you can run 500-yards in 2 minutes or less, you probably won't have a problem with the rest. You'll need to be in much better shape for the Academy, of course.
Regarding the out-of-state issue. We will be as accommodating as we can, but that's not much. We generally try to schedule your QAP interview the Monday after your PAT/Written Psychological exam, so you have to make one trip for the written, and another for the PAT/Psych/QAP. You may be able to complete your initial background interview by telephone, but will have to make a trip out for the final interview, medical, and psychological interviews.

Thanks brother, I appreciate the responses by everyone. Right now the PAT test I have to complete out here consist of a 220 yard run, a 40inch wall a 24 inch and 12 inch step, 20 cone serpentine, 165lb dummy drag for 100 feet, low crawl for 12 feet, then back through everything including the run which ends with a weapon dry fire. I can move for my size and I get through the whole thing in about 4:20 All combined the distance you move including the two 220 yard runs is about 500 yards. I really dont know if its something that should be compared.
I think I could get close to 2 minutes but I dunno. I am bad at endurance so any amount of miles would do me in.
I just need to drop the weight and gain some muscle.

just start treadmill or walking, then running, and don't let up. If you are serious, we got alot of opening, just lump your days off and fly out here during the testing process. Run 30 minutes at least three to five days a week.
