A Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy is being treated for gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by two bank robbery suspects he stopped Saturday afternoon on Interstate 80 at Madison Avenue.
The unidentified deputy's injuries were to the arm and shoulder. The wounds are not believed to be life threatening, a law enforcement spokesman said.
Two suspects were later arrested. A third suspect is being sought in nearby neighborhoods, said Officer Ken Roberts of the California Highway Patrol.
The suspects were in a car linked to a bank robbery in Rocklin earlier in the day, Roberts said.
The deputy apparently was shot after he stopped the suspects' vehicle on the overpass around 1:30 p.m.
After the shooting, the suspects fled into a nearby neighborhood. They were arrested as they attempted to cross I-80 on foot, said Roberts, who along with other CHP officers arrested one of the suspects.
"They were trying to look casual as though they were walking to school, or the gym or whatever," Roberts said. "We're retracing the paths of the suspects to try and locate any guns" they might have thrown away.
A semiautomatic handgun was recovered from a backpack discarded by one of the suspects on the overpass, Robert said.
Officers from six law enforcement agencies are scouring the area in search of a third suspect, Roberts said.
The Madison Avenue overpass of Interstate 80 was closed to traffic shortly after the incident, causing traffic backups on Madison in both directions.

Last word is that the Deputy's OK and all the bad guys are caught. Not bad for a crime that ended at the N. Sac CHP office

Thank goodness the Deputy is ok. We don't need another on duty death.
