24404. (a) A motor vehicle may be equipped with not to exceed two white spotlamps, which shall not be used in substitution of headlamps.
(b) No spotlamp shall be equipped with any lamp source exceeding 32 standard candlepower or 30 watts nor project any glaring light into the eyes of an approaching driver.
(c) Every spotlamp shall be so directed when in use: That no portion of the main substantially parallel beam of light will strike the roadway to the left of the prolongation of the left side line of the vehicle. That the top of the beam will not strike the roadway at a distance in excess of 300 feet from the vehicle.
(d) This section does not apply to spotlamps on authorized emergency vehicles.
(e) No spotlamp when in use shall be directed so as to illuminate any other moving vehicle.

Does that mean that if it is on my left side the beam cannot be hitting the road?

The section states hat the top of the beam will not strike the roadway at a distance in excess of 300 feet from the vehicle.
So, it can illuminate the roadway, but not farther than 300 feet.

No! It says the CENTER of the beam cannot be lit to the left of the left side of the vehicle and the TOP of the beam no further than 300 feet ahead of you.
You must remember that a spot lamp is not a finely tuned lamp. At the lamp, the beam is no larger that the face of the lamp. However, at 300 feet, it could be the size of an automobile or larger; and, at an angle to the roadway could be significantly larger.

Don't you mean Springer Spaniel? Okay, I think this thread has run its course and time to give Zanev a break.
Just remember, you can have spot lights as long as they comply with the Vehicle Code. See them on taxi's now and then... nice to have if you're looking for an address I would think.
Thanks for the interesting thread Zanev.
