I recently received my QAP score...90. I know that 95 is the highest, without the veterans points, and 105 with the veterans points. Let's say that I pass the background investigation, medical/psychological and CVSA and my name is put in the eligible list of candidates. Is is possible for me to remain on this list with my score without ever being called because the list will be continuously updated with new candidates being added and some with higher scores than me? I will be graduating college this June, and I have a job waiting for me back east. Should I take the job back east rather sitting around in CA waiting for that phone call from the CHP because I'm not sure I will ever be called.

once you are on the list you will be in the next class regardless of your score, especially since they are desperate for cadets. i am in a similar boat, i scored a 90, am almost done with everything(just my oral psych), on am going to defer the may class because i graduate in june. once you are on the list to go to the academy you will be going to the next one unless you defer and in that case you will go to the one after like i am

I have said it many times to potentials, if you can take that job back east and honestly be satisfied with it then take it. If you think you might have regrets save yourself time, money, and heartaches. Wait the extra couple of months and stick with it.

Is this true? Are they really in desperate need for qualified cadets?? if so, why is this? Is the population of California growing? Because I heard people are moving out of California. (I am just in the beginning process of applying).

Recruitment of qualified persons interested in a LE career is a nationwide problem. It is not a problem just with the CHP or just Ca. LE agencies.
Danger, low pay, limited benefits, crazy work schedules have a tendency to cause folks to think twice about a LE career.
Then there are family issues, background issues, etc., etc..

Especially after the paragraph stating:
"We have a full staff. We have 108 sworn officers and all those positions are filled," says Chief Dan Macagni of the Santa Maria Police Department.

The PD is at FULL staffing right now...Santa Maria CHP is short something like 5 or 8 Officers...I can only share the stories, I don't write them, edit them, or produce them...
As Carlos Mencia would say...DE..DE...DEEEEE...
