As some of you know, I just started the application process. I took the written a couple of weeks ago and am now awaiting the results. I went on my first CHP ride along today and overall I was very impressed. I wasn't 100% sure the CHP is what I wanted to do but I thought I should get started on the process anyways. After the months I've spent on this forum and my ride along this afternoon, it's settled. Becoming a CHP officer is definitely what I want.
Now to make it happen! I'm not giving up until they tell me never apply again, I get too old or they pin that gold star on my chest!

Out of the SLO office. I'm going to see if I can get a Santa Maria ride along in the near future.

Congratulations Cadet Candidate!! You're on your way, and I doubt you'll regret the decision (although there will be days!)
I've mentored over a dozen of candidates through the process. If you'd like some guidance, please e-mail me at sreese@chp.ca.gov. I'll give you some good tips to review and info to consider, all of which should help you progress through the process.
All the best!

Welpe:
Call Sgt. Ploetz at Santa Maria CHP...He's a real good guy.
P.S. double fatal last night on 166 west of town. Two big trucks...what a mess...

I received notice today that I passed the written. What's the deal with the score? Is that a POST T-Score?
PAT is on the 29th but I'm not going to be able to make it. Looks like I'm waiting until July for the next cycle.
More time to PT I guess.

Thanks! There's pretty much no way I can make the PAT. I am committed to a family function. I would be drug through the street and burned alive if I didn't go.
The September class is too soon for me anyway, I have another year of school so I'm hoping to get in around July/August/Sept of 2007. I know the hiring process takes a while though so I am starting early.

sounds good. that's why it is smart to start early like you did, just in case something like this got in the way

Get to one of the bigger offices, say Oakland, San Jose, San rancisco, etc. It's a whole different world than the central coast. the experience will give you much insight and help you immensly in the QAP oral.

Lt. Reese-
Thank you for the suggestion. I'm originally from the Bay Area so I'm hoping to setup a ride along there in the near future. Also thank you for your offer to contact you with any questions, you might be hearing from me soon.
