Ya know- that's some crummy video quality, but I could swear that's a CHP Officer (blue utilities, our shoulder patch) getting out of a CHP chopper with a Belgian Malinois (not a Shepherd, which SO handles) off leash. But Sac Sheriff's are playing it as if it's them? I love the Sheriff's Deputies out here, don't get me wrong, but that's a bit weird.

Maybe the runner is a Deputy and that's why they posted it. Or maybe they just wanted to post a sweet video of airborne K9 action.

It looks like a Public Safety or Law Enforcement day kind of demo, and the description is: "California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Fitzgerald deploying his K9 partner from CHP helicopter H20."

CHP still has a few German Shepherds, I should know as I still have the bruises to prove it... Gotta love agitator training.

Oh, heh. You don't tend to see the descrptions when viewing full screen, I guess. I really should learn to read!

The Mal's bite is stronger than the Shepherds by almost double. You'd remember the Mal bit way longer than you care to.

While on the K-9 subject, I'm MWD handler in the United States Air Force and i get out in less than i year, and my plan is to apply to the CHP. I know step 1 is to get hired, step 2 make it through the CHP Academy and then the probationary period, but will 2 and half years and a deployment to Iraq as a k-9 handler help me become one with the CHP??

This is an exceptional display of the skills of our CHP pilots!

Around 2:19 is the good part!

Yes Tristaan, that usually helps with the selection process, someone with your experience is a good candidate for the position. The spots are hard to come by so don't get discouraged right away, it just takes time. Good luck!
