A California Highway Patrol officer who responded to a minor injury accident on northbound 99 late Friday night, ended up being a victim in a hit and run crash.

Acting CHP Sergeant Mike Forkin of the Bakersfield office said the original crash happened just before midnight on northbound 99, just north of Ming Avenue.

The patrol car responding to the crash pulled up behind the accident scene and parked. One officer got out of the vehicle, the other remained inside. A few minutes later the patrol car was rear-ended by a tow truck going about 70 mph. The impact sent the patrol car up the embankment.

The tow truck continued, hit the guard rail, crashed into the center divider and kept going.

The officer who was in the patrol car was hospitalized and treated for cuts on his head.

The tow truck was later recovered. But the driver has yet to be found.

man, hope the officer is doing fine. hope they catch the tow truck driver! I wonder if it was a tow truck responding to the accident or just a passer by.

Im glad to here that the officer is ok given the circumstances of the incident. However, I hope they catch the driver of that tow truck, and throw the book at him.

Is this a "rotation" tow driver or a "fly-by-night" guy????

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A suspected hit-and-run driver who injured a California Highway Patrol officer has surrendered.

Daniel Fonseca Garcia is accused of slamming a tow truck last month into the back of a patrol car on northbound Highway 99. The patrol car was stopped with its emergency lights on to warn drivers of wreckage from an earlier crash.

CHP officer Jeremiah Bridges was sitting in the patrol car when the tow truck hit it, and he received moderate injuries.

Garcia turned himself in Sunday night to face felony hit-and-run charges. The CHP had released photos of him after the crash in an effort to track him down.

Wow, this guy looks nothing like the original picture provided. Lost a little weight while on the run, maybe?
