As the days tick closer to the start of CTC-II-09, I look back and I reflect on this entire hiring process and how it is only the beginning to a great career with the California Highway Patrol! It has been less than a year since I joined this site, but in that time I have had access to some extremely helpful information and some even more helpful people - officers, retirees, cadets, applicants and civilians! I thank each and every one of you for the guidance you offer us!
To my fellow CTC-II-09 cadets: I know that many of us are from different areas of the state; that is soon to change as we converge on Sacramento! I would like to know if anyone would be interested in getting together to have dinner sometime in May? I am flexible on the date, but was thinking about May 17th or 24th. I figure that meeting and getting to know each other will help tremendously in the academy! The restaurant is open for discussion as well.
The dates above were based around the May 20th orientation we are having here in Southern division; either day is fine with me. The day does not have to fall on a Sunday either, but I figured that Sunday provides less of a crowd at a restaurant, especially if we have a big group!
I am planning on driving up on Saturday, May 30th (my birthday - My present comes on June 1st!); I am sure that we will be carpooling, caravanning, and splitting hotel rooms . For those who are not local for the dinner, we can all meet up somewhere in the Sacramento area on Sunday for lunch or an early dinner.
We have made it to this point on our own for the most part, but it will take a team to get through the academy! Let's start it off the best we can!
Thank you all!

Brandon, you and I talked about this before and as I said you can sign me up.
If there is anyone who needs a ride to the academy or wants to split a room please feel free to ask. We all need to start working as a team starting last week.

I'd like to do a dinner down here in the border division as well. But I don't know that anyone on here that is going to CTC II-09 is from the border division. I'd be interested in the dinner, I'd make a drive up towards that way. I have finals that week. Let me know as things develop.

a good time to get together could be after the orientation up here in Sac. the day before. Late lunch type thing....

There will be 240 of us at that Sunday's orientation, I can imagine the restaurant that we walk into and the fit they will have! LOL!
I would still like to get together for dinner around those dates above. That would allow us to meet and set up carpools and/or hotel arrangements!

Count me in. I would love to get to know some of the other cadets that will be in our class. I live in Covina and will be at the seminar on the 20th. I like the 24th. Its the Sunday before and it will give us something to talk about. I plan on driving up and would love to follow some one up or even carpool if someone needs a ride.

I planned the CTC-I-09 dinner after orientation on the sunday before pickup day, so if you need any help about planning the dinner please feel free to PM me. I can say it was extremely helpful because if I remember correctly we had about 20 or so cadet there and it was nice to see a familiar face on pick up day. And someone mentioned about the need to start the menatlity of being a team and I can not agree 100% more. Because there is no one person who can make it through the academy alone. And if you do..... well kudos and let me know how it happened. Can't wait to meet you guys in june!

Thank you for offering your assistance! I totally agree that we need to get the team work down NOW! I am coming off of 6 years of playing minor league football, team work is all I know! I am looking forward to the orientation on May 20th so we can all meet and plan a dinner!
As a matter of fact, maybe we should just pick a place and invite all of the people at orientation to it on the Sunday following. That way it is set, and all we need to is show up!
Let me know what you all think.
Thanks

Hahahahah, I can't help but laugh at this thread. And I don't mean that in a bad way. It reminds me of when I was an applicant posting on these forums waaaaaaaaaay back before I went through CTC I-07 (I kid, I kid). A bunch of applicants from the forum met the day before the academy and had togo's. There were 6 of us, and I believe we all made it through.
When your HATING the academy just remember its only temporary. I laugh when I think back about my time at the academy and you guys will too. It sucks when its the present, funny when its the past. Don't quit. Good luck.

Congrats to all those who have received their invitations to the academy. It truly is a one of a kind feeling inside knowing what you are doing and what you are training to do. 3 short weeks and you will be joining us, remember your goal at the end of the tunnel even if you light gets dim along the way. See you guys and gals June 1.

Hey guys, I am also going to attend the academy on june 1st. I am very excited and honored to get to go to the academy. I am ready physically and cant wait to see all you guys there. The question i have is where did all of you guys get your boots? I live in hacienda heights near los angeles. I also want to find out what kind of boots you bought too. Good luck to all.

Hows it going Martinez. Congratulations to being accepted to CTC-II-09. In response to your boots, I recommend Valley Uniforms in long beach. They recently moved from Glendale. They specialize in Police/CHP/Cadets uniforms. Another good place is the LAPD academy store in front of dodgers stadium. Its funny how every time I go in there, I see a CHP officer LOL. They have a large selection of boots.

Oops, forgot the "s". Yeah Sentinel, I hear ya there. Im sure its nothing academically like the "Corps", but I have waited a long time for this and am ready for the challenge. I figure as long as I study my tail off at night and get my 3-4 hours of sleep, then hopefully by the second month I just might start getting used to the long hours and little sleep like the days in the corps. Heck, if i wanted it easy, I would have tried out for the sheriffs or another agency.

I've watched it like three times, do you think South Park knows they stole their animation? I wish I could get the CTC I 08 video in full, but I can’t find it. Does anyone know how to get a hold of the whole thing, or for that matter, a video of the academy thats decent?

I was going to say the same thing. The South Park video was done by III-07. However, I did a little research. There is a video on You Tube showing clips from I-08. It is called "CHP: Coming Soon"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e39whB_T-1c
(Cool side note, at about 1:18, my husband is front and center on the screen!)
In the last few seconds you hear Officer Franzen during inspection at graduation, with the words "Coming Soon to DVD, August, 2008" on the screen. I think this is what he was referring to with "I wish I could get the CTC I 08 video in full, but I can’t find it".
