Not sure if my question is an officer safety issue or not, if it is I will understand.

Today I was in Fresno listening and she dispatched a unit to an area where someone had telephone in that a CHP officer was struggling with a person from a brown vehicle on the RH shoulder.

As soon as the dispatched unit let off the mic a unit came on and said that would be him she was discribing and he was code 4 and 98 the stop. Dispatch seemed surpirsed that he was on the stop and asked again if code 4 and was the stop with a brown vehicle. The unit affirmed.

My question is, is this common for a unit to make a stop without first notifying dispatch. She certainly seemed surprised and unknowing about the stop especially since he was 10-98 from the stop.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks for input.

I know the answer to this one, but I believe it does deal with officer safety so I can't say. Sorry.

Supertrooper is right on. Can't talk about it. But if the officer went 10-98 without incident, chances are the reporting citizen was embellishing or just plane wrong regarding her observations. Remember that people just drive by us and only see hand gestures, facial expressions, etc. Struggling with someone and then went 10-98 without asking for backup or a supervisor. I doubt it.

The officer could easily just have been doing a simple pat down search or even struggling to secure a child seat in the back seat. Things look different when you see them at 65-80 mph as you are driving by.

All we can do is speculate. Thread locked.
