Can anyone tell me how much the fine is for not stopping at a red light? Also how many of you guys stop cars with tinted windows such as limo's to have a look inside if your standing at the top of the ramp and what type of reaction do people give you as you have a lok-see?

The fine on a red light varies from county to county and city to city. I believe it's around 150-170 in my area. As for the tint thing, if it's a vehicle that has tint on the front windows then that alone is our PC to stop and cite. If, say a limo goes by with obvious tint on back and no tint on front windows, I rarely will make the stop unless I am able to actually see into the rear. If the sunlight is right you can still see into the back enough to make out silohettes of people. If I see nothing and they are in an HOV, sure I'll make the stop. Sometimes when you stop them they give you the "why you stopping me?" look. Most Limo drivers are professional drivers ( I say that loosley) and thus are supposed to know that if they follow the rules we won't mess with them. If they keep getting tickets, they loose their driving privledge and hence loose their jobs. They don't want the insurance boost either.

Most counties usually follow the California Judicial Council's uniform bail/penalty schedule. Some counties can adjust the bail amounts accordingly. The first few pages of the bail schedule explain it further. It is interesting reading. I added the link the bail schedule below.

P.S. It's in Adobe PDF format.

One thing to add. The uniform bail schedule doesn't show all of the county-specific processing, special program, or filing fees. And there are numerous provisions for repeat offenders. I wrote a speeding ticket to a guy in a Porsche years ago for 80 in a 65 zone. The fine at that time was the same between 76 and 100 mph. The saying at the that time was, "If you're going to speed in this county you might as well go 99." Anyway, his bill came to just over $950 in 1990! It turned out he had several priors and was going to lose his license as an habitual traffic offender. That's the only reason he faught the cite; even hired an attorney to represent him.

Another question about metered on ramps. 2 lane on ramp with 2 meters on each side. Also a sign under the meter that reads: "one car per each green." 2 lanes + 2 meters each = 4 green lights. 4 cars, or is the upper meter meant for semi's only and should be disregarded by regular cars?

One vehicle per green. If you pay attention, most ramps alternate the greens - left side then right side. Also, most ramps with two lanes restrict the left lane to HOV only and the right lane for all other vehicles. If both lights are displaying a green simultaneously, they are improperly sequenced.

All the ramps on the 210 in Pasadena and Arcadia area that I have been on have signals that display green simutaneously. :hitwall:
