If I remember correctly, there was some disciplinary action taken as a result of that design and the photos that went with it.

Yeah, this was quite the controversy.

As I recall, the second car was a K-9 unit with the "We'll Kick Your A$$" replaced with "We'll Bite Your A$$." These cars weren't on the road, and what could have been an amusing joke within the department ended up leaking to the public and blowing up in everyone's faces.

Sheriff Wimbish was defeated in the next election, and multiple news sources claimed that this incident and the public uproar that went with it contributed to his loss.

It seems like the public always forgets how efficient and valuable our law enforcers are -- the slightest hint of scandal always brings out the torches and pitchforks. I really don't think there was any malicious intent with these pictures, but we all know what they say about Good Intentions...

I respect any uniformed officer all the time. It's sad that people are so ready to attack LEO's when they do something wrong, or off beat in anyway, big or small. And yet when they're in a snag they call on you guys and give very little credit for it. Such a double standard in society. Keep up the good work guys and gals!

I live in the city/county where this happened, I found it quite funny and that in all the undesirable places and situations that ALL law enforcement HAS to deal with they can still be as "human" as anyone else, but the non-humorous people that decided to make a big deal ruined it

I still enjoy looking at it (I have it saved)

Since this thread came back...

I'm 99.9% sure that the "And take your doughnuts too" was a bit of Photoshop work. I didn't see that when this first came up, and I could be wrong, but it sure looks like someone wanted to add a little more fuel to the fire by adding it. I don't remember seeing the doughnut bit in any of the pictures when they were first leaked.

The article cited above states that the doughnut part was photoshopped after.

Ah... As a resident of Kern County, I was pretty familiar with the controversy, so I didn't read the Snopes article. Thanks for the confirmation.
