Okay, I need some help. My boss was a deputy out in AZ, and is now working on getting hired on at an SO out here. It's all in good fun, but he gets his jabs in about me wanting to chase tailights, some Erik Estrada references, etc.... So, do any of you have some real good Sheriff's Deputy pop-offs I can nail him with?

Just agree with him 100% about the SO being the best choice. Tell him you wanted to be a Deputy too, but you scored too high on the written test and they said you were too smart to do that and they recommended applying for the CHP.

Nice, I like that one. Since it's getting towards the end of the ski season we have a lot of free time up here. This little war is great for killing time.....plus the pictures of Barney Fife nicely decorate the office....

Hey uoplax- on a serious note. Did you read that Don Knotts (the original Barney Fife) passed away about a month ago? I was so sad to read that.

I am not even an officer and i can't believe how much crap i get sometimes. LOL, i just usually laugh and move on, but sometimes i like to give them a little jab back when they ask me why i picked CHP
i usually say that i didn't want to become a marriage counselor!
sometimes they get it and sometimes they don't.

Yep, I remember seeing that on the news a while back. and, yes I've thrown the whole being a referee at the trailer park when Bubba and Peggy Sue go at it...... It's all in good fun though. What has surprised me a little bit is that when some of the druggies I see at work hear of my intent to join the CHP, most are impressed and like "wow". Even the people getting arrested up here seem to favor the CHP over the SO's. Usually they attribute it to professionalism, and officers just being nice despite locking them up.

Ha, that's what I reply with too when people ask me that same exact question. Some of my friends are giving me a hard time because of my career choice, but most of them (my close friends) are proud of me.

Just ask him if he enjoyed checking the rear ends of inmates or being a baby sitter for his first couple of years at the jails.
My cousin is a Sheriff in Northern CA, and gives me crap about my career goals all the time, I mean ALLLL the time. SO I know what you are going through. I asked him the above question, but in a more "not forum friendly" way, if you know what I mean. He basically admitted that I got him there, but now that he is on patrol, its different, blah blah blah. Have fun
