Hi there!

Like you, I am currently a civilian with an interest in the CHP. Like you, I visit chpforums.com in order to be informed about the process and stay up to date on current CHP / law enforcement news and events. Like you, I acknowledged during the sign up process that I would not ask hiring questions until such time as the hiring forum was reopened. Like you, I'm interested in working for the most well-known and respected law enforcement agency in the world.

Law enforcement officers, regardless of agency affiliation (and by very definition) enforce the rules of society. You have chosen to participate in discussions that are open to all of us at the discretion of the Administrators here, provided that we FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.

So, I'm kind of curious, and maybe some of you can help me out. Why do the hiring questions persist?

If you can't follow the rules here, as a civilian, how on Earth can you expect the CHP to believe that you can not only follow the rules and directions of the Department, but fairly and honestly enforce the rules out on the road?

As an applicant, you must consistently demonstrate the ability to follow rules and directions during an intense and lengthy hiring process. By coming to these forums and not following the rules, you're accomplishing all the wrong things, and creating more obstacles for yourself.

When you get to that stage in the process where you're asked about your preparation for the job, chpforfums.com could come up. It's entirely possible that you'll run across an officer (whether in your QAP, BI, or at the Academy) who uses these forums. Do you really want to create heartache for yourself by having it come out that you were a nuisance on this website?

I think I speak for most of us here when I say welcome to the boards. Read through the threads and learn what you can. Participate in the discussions, and practice your reading comprehension and writing skills. Utilize the resources here to make yourself a better, more qualified applicant.

But please, for Pete's sake, don't ruin this forum for all of us by asking hiring questions. The CHP has plenty of official resources available to you (recruiters, PAOs, etc) for those hiring questions, and it's much better for all of us if you utilize those avenues instead of hindering yourself with non-compliance on this website.

Have fun in here, and be safe out there.

To dw, Mac, Papa, Yzeman, snowdog or any other Administrator/moderator:

Feel free to remove this if I've overstepped my bounds here. I know all this has been said before, but obviously people still haven't learned. I really don't want to see the forums disappear for those of us that aren't on the job.

It's just like the people out there driving on the roads - they see the signs and know what they say....but those signs are meant for everybody else, not them!

It's highly important in this career field that you are able (and willing) to follow instructions, adhere to laws/policy, etc. There is now a "click-through" that every new registrant has to read and agree to before proceeding, which specifically states that hiring questions are not allowed. There is a sticky at the top of every forum in ALL CAPS instructing them to read it before they post. It also explicitly states that hiring questions are not allowed. The way I see it, if a person still posts a hiring question after all that, it means one (or more) of the below:

1) They're stupid.

2) They're ignorant

3) They're illiterate.

4) They're a non-conformist.

5) They think the world revolves around them.

In any of the above cases, they don't stand much chance as an applicant anyway....so in the big picture, it really doesn't matter much that we're going to nuke their question and ban them from the board. Thankyoudrivethrough.

alexfarrington, you hit the nail on the head and Mac's words speak volumes of truth. It is nice to hear that from a member rather than a moderator about the hiring issue. There are plenty of avenues available for those curious in a career in the CHP to use. CHPForums is still available, but for some reason people don't like to use the search feature and read through old posts or do research on a question. I field questions that are easily found using the search feature or on Google. We are all on a computer with a browser that can get to Google or a similar search engine... but it doesn't happen. Hopefully those same people that fail to follow the rules, instructions, or pay attention to detail are not making it into the Academy... if they do, they will have a serious eye-opener.

I would have to agree. This is my first post, though I've been on this forum for more than a couple of months. I have never needed to post anything, because of the amount of information that had been covered(using the search button really isn't that hard). I took the written today, and without this forum today I do not think I would of had a chance. So I would like to thank you guys for your help. Hopefully one day we all can follow simple directions.
