View Full Version : Patrol Duties
Can someone answer my question about the air ops. When you are assigned to the air ops, do you get to drive the cruiser on the beat at all? Can you work extra, or holidays on a beat? I guess my question could pertain to the MAIT team and some of the other specialty assignments as well?

When I was at Air Ops, I would, on rare occasion, take a car and go out and write tickets. It was usually when the aircraft was down for maintanence and there was nothing else that needed to be done at the office.
You do have road days at airops, typically done at a close area. As said, done when maintenance and other things are going on. As far as MAIT goes.....not sure not all divisions have MAIT (ie GGD, although its coming back) but they would fall under the Division priorities for working the road, MEP's, etc.

Most MAITs are busy as hell. Seriously, those guys and gals never get a chance to breath. Taking measurements is only a small part of the job. As for other special duty slots it depends. At HQ it's practically impossible. Commercial Vehicle Section is about the only ones I who can think of but I doubt they get to. It was forbidden at the Academy; mainly because of teaching schedules and staffing. If you get hurt or have to go to court it isn't easy to cover since one topic is usually only assigned to one instructor. Not to mention, the work load at HQ is over the top. You can, however, sit in your cubicle and stare out a window, daydreaming about it. Or go play on the skidpan in a junker if the EVOC staff will let you. They have staff black and whites there but they're used for going to Starbucks and back ;)
