I was over by the CHP office in San Diego yesterday, right off of sea world drive. A group of High School students who were protesting the new immigration bill marched right infront of the CHP office with what seemed like an SDPD escort . There was a lot of Police Officers there just driving with the crowd, not making an attempt to intervene. Mind you they were truant so that was the first law they were breaking, more than likely with others I cant think of right now. I dont know if the SDPD didnt have the man power to just start making arrests for daytime loytering and truancy or if they just didnt want to do it. Anyway, it caused a major back up and hastle to get through old town. Just thought I would share that and get your opinions on the issue as a whole.

Ah yes, I remember the Gulf War walkouts when I was in high school. Looking back, what were we thinking? That Bush Sr. was going to call off a war because a bunch of small town high schoolers out in California cut class?

As for arresting them or breaking up the "march" it's just better to let them express themselves and be done with it. More harm would come from trying to stop the protest than just letting them walk. Now if they got out of control, STOMP the dog piss out of them.
Now as for "expressing their opinion" They are high school students and therefore stupid by nature. Honestly, 98% of those kids had absolutely no idea what was at stake or even how the issue effects them or anyone else for that matter. Like most of the protesting public .... they just don't get it. To assume that because they are there they understand the gravity of the situation is naive. After listening to some of these kids comments ... it is clear that they really need to stay in school and "get gooder learning". In short, it was just a day off for the morons. Give them the one and get your butts back in school tomorrow or we will arrest you, you've had your fun.
Gotta love the liberal school endoctrination program they have going.

Ah to be young again . . .
What all protesters tend to ignore is the fact that MOST people see them as ridiculous. Having worked several protests, I can tell you that most are just out getting high, yelling and hollering about something just for the attention. The Iraq War protests in SF were ridiculous (fun to work though). Most of the people we arrested were drunk or stoned, unbathed, and just disgusting. Biotech 04' there was a complete joke. The protests didn't amount to much.
About the only thing that I find remarkable in these current protests is that the articulate kids have made it clear they're trying to protect their parents. I usually turn a blind eye to the anti-everything protestors but kids who are citizens protecting parents who aren't is touching and it's hard for me to not sympathize. That much I'm open-minded about.
However . . . anything having to do with immigration in California always turns to those individuals from south of the border. I said this before in another thread: illegal immigration is not the exclusive domain of Latin Americans. Making it a racial issue about ONE race is exactly what illegal emigrants from OTHER countries want. Sorry folks but the Bay Area alone is loaded with illegal emigrants from all over Europe. From a terrorism perspective, this is frightening.
From the other side of the fence, I recently experienced an interesting twist on this topic. A farmer friend of mine's daughter (caucasian; astensibly from caucasia, where ever that is) just lived for three years, illegally, in London, England. She left for fear she'd get caught. Once she left, she was flagged and can now never visit again. She came home late last year and stayed for about six weeks. She just left for Australia a few weeks ago. It's easy for Americans to enter countries on valid visas and then live abroad indefinitely after the visas expire. Just thought this was interesting as people tend to lose perspective.
