It was CHP last month, now CCCSO

Thieves broke into Contra Costa County sheriff's cruisers and made off with three semiautomatic rifles and two shotguns, several weeks after a similar break-in at the California Highway Patrol office in Martinez, authorities said Tuesday.

The theft at the sheriff's stations in Richmond and Martinez occurred sometime between Monday night and early Tuesday morning, said Jimmy Lee, Contra Costa sheriff's spokesman.

At Martinez headquarters, someone broke into a locked parking lot in back of the office at 1900 Muir Road, broke into several Ford Crown Victoria cruisers and stole three AR-15 rifles and a shotgun, Lee said.

At about the same time, a shotgun was stolen from a cruiser at the sheriff's Bay Station at 5555 Giant Highway in Richmond, Lee said.

I pray they are not used in a crime or against LEO's. I shoot AR's all the time and although they are a relatively small round the are fast (penetrate kevlar) accurate

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office (http://www.nbcbayarea.com/topics?topic=Contra+Costa+County+Office+of+the+She riff) announced additional arrests in connection with the theft of weapons from the sheriff's office and California Highway Patrol (http://www.nbcbayarea.com/topics?topic=California+Highway+Patrol) late last year and early this year.
The arrests and recovery of weapons were the result of a joint investigation by the sheriff's office and the FBI.

You gotta be joking me! The Sheriff Department's long guns, shotguns and rifles, have tactical lights attached, so my guess is the bottom AR-15, the one WITHOUT a light, is CHP's property (via the National Guard Armory).

As they say, 80 years of tradition, unhindered by progress. :hitwall:
