Hello All,

I am rebuilding my 1985 SSP Mustang - CHP #E408395. Today I rec'd a FAX copy of my car's CHP assignment card -

The assignment card ties my VIN to that unit number, and getting a copy of it is like finding the Holy Grail to a CHP car restorer. So my car was at the Quincy station from April 1986 to October 1987. It was also wrecked, according to the card. Is there anybody on the forum who might have been there during that time period? I know the chances are remote, but I'd love to hear from a LEO who might have driven my car while in-service.

Thanks!

Bill Jr.

I wanted to update this thread. Since my original post, I started the restoration of my 85 CHP Mustang. Here is a link to the build-up thread on the car -

I keep the CHP lights covered at all times while I am on the road. I am rebuilding the car as a driver. Right now I am re-doing the interior. In a way, it's a rolling tribute to those of you who work in an often thankless job.

Try writing a letter to:
Area Commander
Quincy CA CHP
Quincy, CA 95971

Send your photos and a copy of the card you received vis a vis the car history and ask if he will put out the info/request through the office grapevine. Many officers retire out of the Quincy area and it would be a good chance that there is a retiree in the area who will remember the car in question.

Quincy is a remote northern CA post where many used to go to finish up their career or after arriving in mid career would remain until retirement.

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate it! I know the chances are slim that anything would turn up in terms of contacting an active/retired LEO who may have had this car while in-service, but it never hurts to try. I'm thrilled to have gotten a copy of the Assignment Card. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

Thanks again!
