In an effort to get the word out, I'm reposting this under the "Classifieds" section...

Each year, the Rancho Cordova PD motor squad tries to raise the funds to take the squad, bikes, etc. to the National Peace Officers' Memorial at our nation's capital. Obviously, this upcoming May they will be traveling to DC with a purpose that hits closer to home - to honor one of their own, Officer Larry Canfield. They have partnered with an outfit that has published a calendar highlighting their squad (among others). Part of the proceeds from the sale of these calendars will be used to fund their trip.

Below is the e-mail orginally sent by my brother (an RCPD motor), along with some add'l information:

Please take a look at this link. Our department was featured in this years' calendar of www.motorcops.com. We met the owner while in Washington DC the past two years and this year he came out and photo'd us for the calendar. We became close friends with him as well. He loved Larry and the cigar he always had in his mouth and featured Larry in the calendar. He also came out for the funeral and took a lot of pictures that are also featured on his website.
Our department will be purchasing the calendars to sell in hopes of raising monies for our trip the DC again this year, but in the event I can not personally get to you in hopes of selling a calendar to you, I'm hoping you can order yours off of this website. A portion of the monies will be given back to us for our DC trip.
Please pass along this email to as many people as you can. You never know who might order the calendar and help us out. Also, forward the previous email with the fundraiser letter and the WSMOA tax ID number. Please continue to forward those letters out if you still have them. Again, you never know who may donate to our cause. Thanks so much. http://www.motorcops.com/scsd/ (http://www.motorcops.com/scsd/)

The fundraiser letter is too big to post (and I'm not that bright), so here is an excerpt:

If you would like to simply make a cash donation, you may do so by writing a check to WSMOA and mail it to:
High Impact Motor Unit
2500 Marconi Ave, Suite 100
Sacramento, CA 95821

If you prefer, you may make a donation through Pay Pal using www.wsmoa.org (http://www.wsmoa.org/) and follow the link to Pay Pal.
(WSMOA Tax ID# is 26-2043917)

Have you guys thought of making challenge coins to use for your fund raiser? I have taken care of others and they have been a great source. I can do a custom coin specifically for your motor squad. I am making coins for my squad in Rancho Cucamonga Area (CHP). TONY at Centurion Coin & Emblem (951) 285-1100

Actually, Larry had apparently worked on a challenge coin project prior to his death. I'm not sure what company he was working with to accomplish that, but it was a very important project for the entire squad.

During part of the eulogy, they spoke of the money he paid out of his own pocket to make sure everyone had theirs in a timely manner. Obviously the project was significant enough for them to mention during his funeral. In fact, one of the gifts they presented to Larry's widow, Michelle, was a custom made box containing the challenge coin from each member of the RCPD motor squad. Also, at the funeral, they asked anyone from other agencies who had a coin and was willing to place it in the box to do so, as well.

It's a neat concept. I wonder how many of our own CHP squads do that... Of course, I suppose you would know, if they've gone through you to do it!

Hi Radar... I'm glad his wodow received something as special as that. Very cool... Our San Bernardino Area Motor Squad had a coin made after the passing of Motor Officer Jim Goodman. They were a very nice tribute to him. I did not make them as I was not in business back then. The only other coins I know of are the ones I'm doing for my motor squad. I'm also doing a coin for the last class to guaduate our Motor School.
