In reading the Dream Sheets sticky, Santa Barbara has taken 8 Officers in the past three classes (I-08, II-08, III-08). Why????

Just guessing but I am thinking economics........

Santa Barbara is a pretty darn expensive place to live.

Generally speaking, in these tight economic times, someone has to retire, die or transfer out before anyone goes in and the only time cadets would go in is if no one with seniority had a transfer in for the area.

That's what I've heard also. The cost of living is high in Santa Barbara that is what my BI informed me.

That's what I figured, but one could live in Lompoc, Santa Maria, Ventura and commute...?

That's true, I guess people just get freaked out when they hear Santa Barbara:noidea:. I live about 1 1/2 hours form downtown and the drive is not bad...

1.5 hours not bad? And I complain about my 25 min commute.

Last I heard, a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, wood framed house built in the 1920's (and a fix er upper) in a less than good neighborhood was worth $1.2 million. Probably could cover the payment with some OT?????

I don't commute yet...but I think it wouldn't be bad at all...I used to commute 2.40 minutes in New York....one way...I will take whatever...

Santa Barbara is a stepping stone for those looking to get into Buellton, Santa Maria, and San Luis Obispo.

It would take forever to get into these offices so those who lived there put in for Santa Barbara.

Now, with retirements & transfers, we (Santa Barbara) are losing Officers to those offices.

My first year I was one of 8 17's. Now, about 70% of the office are 17+.

Even with the four we're getting this month, we are still down a few positions. Which in an office our size hurts.

What is a "17?" I would search for related topics but "17" but it's too short.
