Looks awesome! Only thing that looks missing is radar and I can't tell if it has antennas or not.

It looks real cool.

But, is that front fender damaged or is that just the angle of the picture?

A better question might be are the auto techs ready? Based on other department's experiences they'll be busy.

Its always good to replace a proven veteran with the novice rookie...or is it?

When I went to the Academy in 2001, I was driving a 1980's vintage Chevy Caprice on the high speed track. Last time I was up there, I saw early 2000's Crown Vics, with the budget, I imagine they'll stay for a while.

The closest you'll get to the Charger while at the Academy is when you run by them during PT.

Getting into that car on a daily basis would be nice... but I will be far more excited to be putting on the uniform everyday! First things first, right?

If the CHP does switch its entire fleet to Chargers, I would say it would be quite a few years before the Academy gets some for EVOC. The cars the cadets drive at the Academy are runouts.

How do the cadets get trained in the cars they will be driving (new chargers) if they don't have any at the academy until the wear some out???

Unless things have changed since my Explorer days (which is entirely possible) newer officers probably don't have to worry too much about driving a new Charger anytime soon. I seem to recall that seniority was up near the top of the list when it came to determining car assignments.

yea, in senior offices. New officers come to the office timid with the crown vics and they trained in them in Sac, so what's the difference. They will learn in time.

If you guys do plan on adopting the Chargers as your Cruisers, when you are closing on violators, give yourself plenty of stopping distance.

Nothing like having a 160 mph car with 85 mph brakes.

I have a charger for a company car, it's nothing exotic and very standard.

Overall, I like the look of the car and handles pretty good. I had it up at Penn State recently and drove in some snow and then rain coming home. No issues at all.

Here is what I don't like.
- Very compact on the inside, could not imagine fitting comfortably w/ duty belt, partner, and client in the back. Also, if it's a cage car it will make it more uncomfortable, not sure CHP uses cages.

My pregnant wife hates the ride and tries to avoid riding in it. The seats are not the best for long trips, that is my only issue.

Dodge related....CSPD will not be ordering anymore chargers. These cops go through tires like hot cakes. One cop was sitting spotted a speeder floored it from P to N:doh: by accident then to D quickly and dropped an estimated 5000rpms. Cost $6500 for a transmission. Crown vics cost $1500 per tranny.

They don't get to drive chargers at evoc. They will drive crown vics. besides the officers on the road will be too busy crashing the Chargers for evoc to use them.

During my ridealong the officer informed me that this is the reason he leaves it in Drive and applies the parking brake when waiting to catch a speeder. Not sure if it was department policy, but it did prevent that from happening, just release the parking brake and go.

At FLETC a few years ago they were testing the Chargers during the summer, it's usually 92 w/ high humidty daily. Horrible PT weather, even at 5am it's 80+ w/ %80 humidity.

They cooked up the brakes and the test car crashed. Dodge people packed up their gear and left. Overall, they loved the car but the brakes seem to be a major issue.

The Impalla's and CV's do well in the heat overall.

When I am sitting on the shoulder, I leave it in neutral and apply the brake. Leaving it in neutral keeps the pressure off the trans in my opinion.

I hope we drive the charger with are brains, because we already drive the crown vic to its limits. Adding that much more horse power can be dangerous.

We saw three brand new black and white chargers roll into the academy last week. They look awesome, but looks are'nt everything . They ship cars in and out of the academy every day it seems like. Anyway, I'm guessing if we saw them come in, they're going to be used somwhere:noidea:.

I spoke with a few sergeants from lapd around my neighborhood about how they like they're chargers so far. I got negative responses from everyone of them. They claim it's to small from the inside. They would rather have the impala.

Wrote this before, I have a personal Charger...the wife has a personal Impala.

The Impala is much bigger on the inside, not even close. Both have nice trunk space...also the Impala is much more comfortable...but front wheel drive.

Hmm... I wonder why departments started to pick that vehicle to begin with.

WELL I DONT KNOW WHERE YOUR LOCATED, BUT HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, MANY DEPARTMENTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN USING THEM FOR A WHILE BESIDES LAPD. SMALL DEPARMENTS I SEE OFTEN WITH CHARGERS ARE GLENDALE PD, ARCADIA PD, ALHAMBRA PD.

HERES A WEBSITE THAT HAS ALL OF L.A COUNTYS PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENTS TOYS (such as patrol cars, trucks, etc). THE CHARGERS ARE SEEN IN QUITE A FEW PLACES.

Thanks, yeah I've seen them in Santa Ana and other OC cities. Most of the time I've heard the same complaint... "not enough room inside" I'm sure there are other aspects of the vehicle they took into account before putting them on the road.

I know about the impala and chargers...with the crown vic going out what other sedan options are there? Is CHP considering any others at all?

I would think that Tahoes would be a great choice but not sure of specs and or useability.

Im a level 1 reserve LEO. We have 12 Chargers and 2 Crown Vics being phased out. I cant drive a charger until the Crown Vics are buried.

I have to confess. A cool Sgt let me drive one for a 12 hour shift. These vehicles needed a upgrade on brake rotors. All rotors were replaced with HP rotors and brakes. Have problems with the brakes. The visibility is diminished due to the small windows. Drivability is outstanding with the rigid suspension. Getting in and out of the vehicle quickly is not a problem for a 6'2" frame. Of course the looks are killer. The HP is equivalent to a 300 HP C4 Corvette. I own one :) Its pretty violent off the line. Going code, I cannot keep up with them when im in a Crown Vic. Dont care too much about the caged area. Its small and not built for comfort anyway if you know what I mean. Other than this, its a pretty sweet ride. Just dont backup too fast.

Its nice to see a new Charger all decked out. But, unfortunately you know immediately that it's loaded with the finest technology. You automatically know it has the 1970's radio system along with the 1980's lightbar as shown. Wow not that impressive.

If looks could kill... these Chargers have a nice aggressive look to them. Not sure how practical they are, but they may provide good service to chippies. I just wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to hit the streets.
