So a couple nights ago I was with a couple friends cruisng in Azusa Canyon, nothing fast or crazy just a drive to relax and enjoy our cars. On the way back down a San Dimas Sheriff Expedition blocked the road and asked for proof of insurance, registration, and our drivers license!

He claimed he pulled us over for street racing. They asked what we where doing in the canyon and blah blah.

One of the officers saw my CHP 11-99 Plate frame on the back of my car and said "bulshit, give this 11-99 guy a ticket."

I was like "great" in my mind of course!!!

So then all of us got tickets, they went around each of the 3 cars and found a couple fix its!

I was just kinda sad I got it cause one of the officers disliked my plate frame but the only reason I display is it to show my support.

I also I had my little 11-99 I.D card but I was like that might make it worse if I said anything or even talked back!

I know the Foundation stopped handing out plate frames but should I keep mine on or just take it off now?

I was kinda shocked to his reaction of it!!!

Maybe I will take it off, I also heard 11-99 was going to take the plates back but never heard anything from them, still sad, lol, kinda

I got a ticket on the 71fwy for speeding once but the officer never said it was casue I had a 11-99 frame but cause he was doing his job and looking out for my saftey and others, it just put a bad taste in my mouth when he said "give the 11-99 guy a ticket."

My honest personal opinion,

Azusa Canyon at night :doubt:
Give back the 11-99 frame (thank you for your support, but not a fan of the frames)
Correct your fix-it violations and you will have nothing to worry about on that end

From what you said you got a legit ticket for violations and not because of a frame. Don't try and distort the truth.

LOL

Well of course I'm going to fix the fix-it tickets!

Azusa Canyon at night is kinda shady also, lol, even Angles Crest but it has a great view point up there at night!

Yes. Lose the frame. Thank you for your support though. But when I donate to charity, I donate silently.

I'm not sure why you titled your post, "Ticket for 11-99 ticket" when it seems, based on the rest of your post, you got a ticket for your mechanical violations. I wasn't there, so I don't what you were doing, what the Officer(s) said, but it could be that you were reading into what the Deputy said.

The absolute best way you can show your support for the police isn't by displaying a particular license-plate frame, but by conducting yourself lawfully and ensuring that your vehicle is lawful. Perhaps the Deputy saw a contradiction between your plate frame and your violations.

Welcome to the boards, by the way.

I agree, I kinda did read into what the one deputy said and from the terms of what you said that makes sense. I was kinda thrown by the comment more or less.

I got a fix-it for my "NO" front plate and front tint!

Not too bad but just hurts putting holes into the front bumper:sad:

Why? Look for a license plate bracket. Even the famous Corvette has plenty of plate mounts that leave no holes

If the quote about the 11-99 frame is true, and that turned the tide for the decision to ticket or not ticket, I think that is bulls**t. If he deserved a ticket, he deserved one, but if the 11-99 frame was the deal breaker, that's just plain old wrong!!!!:tape:

Great for the people who own Corvettes. However, the rest of us who are in a lower tax bracket deal with holes and the ugly front plate.

Nice attitude. I gave the Corvette reference because their drivers always complain about how they don't have a way to mount a plate. Lower tax bracket... so when I made a mount for my Ford Ranger did that bump me from the lower tax bracket to middle/upper? Guess that is how we fix the economy.:hitwall: Lower tax bracket has nothing to do with this discussion.

Since "Tax brackets" and "Front plate brackets" were being thrown around in this thread, I decided to dig. I found this in a dusty section of the vehicle code.

Front License Plate Bracket

11713.17. (a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:
(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.
(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:
(A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.
(B) The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.
(b) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 365, Stats. 2004. Effective January 1, 2005.

Here is my point Force. Most (not all) vehicles today are designed to have very aerodynamic front ends. Attaching a large square plastic bracket on the front end just looks plain ugly. I realize it's the law and I have front plates on all of my vehicles. If anything the Vette owners have it easy because at least the front plate is recessed within the bumper.

I'm sorry you didn't get the tax bracket comment.

CHPUSMC, good stuff. I know somebody that just bought an 06 Corvette (why I mentioned it) from Carmax. Before the sale Carmax added a front plate (no screws, just some strong sticky stuff) to it so as to not be in violation.
Check out a C6 (05+) and there is no spot recessed for it. I digress...

Well, In France you are also required to have a front plate like this 599 Ferrari but I'm not sure if that is a French or Duetchland plate but still looks funny (odd) to me how low it is due to certain reasons!

TheForceCHP, I got some L-brackets from Lowes, so I will try tomorrow and see how it pans out!

Here is one on a 2007 Vette!

All in all the law is the law I guess!

This is one argument I have never understood...I have always followed the law...yes, the aerodynamics do take a bit of a hit, and it looks very ugly...but it doesn't seem to have a negative effect on the top end.

As for being in Azusa canyon late at night....any group of cars will look suspicious ie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UnBtdhCQ4Y

the fact you have a 11-99 will make you look even more suspicious as if you were to be trying to hide something, as if you were trying to lower the chances of getting a ticket..

BTW congrats on the purchase... is it a regular c6 or is it the ls7 z06 model...just wondering...and i know that they wont drill holes into the front bumper due to the fact that it is a carbon fiber bumper...any drilling would definitely ruin the bumper..
and heres a link that might help

I saw a 'vette the other day...the owner had trimmed the licenense plate down to just the numbers/letters, and had rivited that portion to a narrow spot on the bumper....

Sounds like that guy should get a cite for mutilating his license plate...

'Steal is such a harsh word...I prefer, um....'loan' or 'borrow'. By the way, how about keeping a little gas in the tank, eh.
