A serious accident in Sacramento has injured a CHP Assistant Chief.

The crash happened just after 8:30a.m. on 26th Street at Broadway. The CHP officer was on 26th Street when he was hit by another vehicle traveling on Broadway. That driver is now being questioned. Officers investigating the crash are unsure if the driver ran a red light.

The Assistant Chief has been taken to the hospital with what is being described as minor injuries. Witnesses say he was out of the CHP vehicle and talking after the accident.

CHP Officer Injured in Sacramento Crash

A California Highway Patrol officer on his way to work was injured in a car crash this morning.

Officer Chris Jenkins, 46, was on 26th Street in Sacramento at about 8 a.m. when another car ran a red light on Broadway and hit his car on the passenger side, police said. Jenkins' unmarked Crown Victoria was pushed into another moving car.

Jenkins was taken to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Jenkins is an assistant chief and a 20-year veteran of the CHP.
