Can anyone tell me how ride-along weekend works? Is it for the entire weekend? My cadet hasn't received any info yet and it's only 2 weeks away . I need to figure out how to get him to LA and make any necessary arrangements.

The ride along is only for one shift during the weekend. They will be given the shift either A, B or C... some offices are different in shift times. But A is morning, B is swing/afternoon and C is grave yards. So he will be giving either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday and what shift that he will be working.
We had to drive to where he was being placed. So We drove down and stayed for the weekend to look for houseing too. Lucky for us he got his ride along on a swing shift on a Friday so we had plenty of time to find houseing.
Good luck ladies.!!!

ahhh .... remembering the cadet ridealong....

I was so excited I begged the Sgt to let me go out with the next shift too. 17 hours...that's a long day.

Mine was cool also so long ago. Went to breakfast, ticket, coffee, ticket, lunch, ticket, coffee, ticket, end of shift. I knew it was the best job in the world then. That was when I als olearned CHP= Coffee Has Priority :)

So how did it go? I saw 3 cadets doing different things in Central LA's area on Saturday.

My husband went to East L.A. for his ride-along. They impounded a car that was gang affiliated, took a DUI to jail, and caught some speeders! I even drove around L.A. by myself to my own amazement. I thought L.A. would be scarier. (Even found a crack-pipe in our hotel room  - quickly exchanged for a different room).

My other half was completely enthralled to be going down to West LA to visit for the first time and do the drive along. Unfortunately his drive along went by very slow due to stop and go traffic (only a few tickets/deuces for his entire shift )! I'm sure he will have plenty of experiences in the near future since they have a little more than a month till he's officially there! The best part of the situation is the fact he's more at ease about moving to a larger metro area. Thank goodness.

My hubby is going to Santa Fe Springs and he had a good time on his ride along. The Officer he was with was on his first day off break-in (and thus from my husband's senior class)! They had a couple warnings and tickets, a couple hazards in the road, a couple disabled vehicles, and a couple fender benders. Seemed to be a pretty typical day and he had a great experience!

during ride along weekend, is the cadet in uniform? or civilian attire?

please edit if this is an inappropriate question.

We will make sure he is not bored when he comes here for break-in.

 Uh oh! I'm positive he won't be bored - and I'm sure there are plenty of you guys to keep him on his toes!

As time gets closer, he gets more and more excited. As do I for him.

The biggest thing I'm wondering about (and he's interested in getting more experience in) are those dang pile up accidents. How long does it take to write a typical report?
