Unfortunetly, I did not make it into the CHP so I'm selling the boots I purchased in preperation for the academy. I paid $129.00 for these and I'll sell them for $85 which includes shipping to anywhere in the U.S.

The boots are size 12 Wide, are very comfortable, and light. They would make a terrific boot for the academy. They will fit a size 12 or 12 1/2 foot comfortably. I wore them 4 times to break them in before I began shinning them. They have the required 1" 1/4 inch heel and are easy to shine.

Send me a PM and your contact information, if your interested.

Here is a link to the boots and a few pictures.

It is totally none of my business, but I am surprised that you are getting rid of perfectly good (expensive!) boots... My husband quit the Academy after the first week of his 1st CTC, and kept all his stuff. Thank God he did, because after getting all his s:tape:t together, by the Grace of God (and an awesome BI), he got back in, and we didn't have to pay for everything again.

Unless you are totally sold on never re-applying for CHP or any other branch of law enforcement, I recommend sitting on those boots  for awhile. If you retread, you might be glad you did, and if sadly you should happen to not retread, you can always sell them then.

I'm at the age limit so I cannot apply again. Good idea though for someone else in the same position.

I am sorry to hear that. Good luck to you then, and I hope you find a job that makes you happy.

I watch the Fox series "The Academy"... If you have never seen it, they follow recruits through LA County Sherrifs Department STAR Center (training facility)Only a piddly 18-week program, I might add! They don't seem to have an age limit, as two of their recruits in the first season were 49 years old when they went through (although ultimately separated from) "The Academy".

I was also surprised to hear LASD's academy is only 18 weeks! How can they fit all the necessary POST material into that short amount of time. It sounds like they only getting the bare minimum.

By comparison, SFPD's academy is now up to 32 weeks!!!

LASO academy is so short because they only teach enough to become a Deputy. After they have spent anywhere from 6 months to 5+ years in custody, then they go to a "Patrol" academy in which they learn how to work the road. I believe that is 8 to 9 weeks or so in length.

Then why did they show deputies from the show go right from the academy to the streets? In the academy #2 one deputy on graduation day even said something along the lines-tomorrow I start patrol- Not calling you a liar but thought this was worth mentioning. I don't know if you saw the last episode but they showed a couple other deputies on patrol straight from the academy in FTO. Free episode...http://www.hulu.com/watch/29505/the-academy-pomp-and-circumstance

They go through the full academy and then to the jails or court. Im sure on the "Academy" they didnt show that part because it would make the job seem less desireable. After you do jail or court services the send you to a remediation patrol class so you can freshen up on things you might have forgotten while wasting away in the jail.

How did this go from a former applicant trying to sell his boots to asking questions that are none of any body's business to giving unsolicited advice to a discussion about a television program and insulting another agencies hiring guidelines and their "piddly" Academy program?
And how many of those responding have actually been through an Academy?
RIDICULOUS!!
Good luck with selling the boots and in your future.
