I wish there was a dedicated CHP museum!
I wish there was a dedicated CHP museum!
There is. It's at the CHP Academy.

Is that open to the public Mac?
Yes, as far as I know. YM should be able to confirm for sure, since he worked there for a while.

The CHP should bid on these two Mustangs and put it in their museum!

You're absolutely right Mac. Anyone can visit the museum, unaccompanied. However, their's a huge museum project underway which has plans for an entirely separate building to be located on the west side of the access road when you first enter the Academy grounds. It's being run entirely by retirees and it's going to be huge. A REAL museum which will include the cars from the photo SB 405 provided a link to. Those are only a handful of the vehicles that are going to be included. The plans I saw were impressive. But currently the only museum is the tiny one in the admin building. Just show up at the front desk and sign in. They had two antique patrol cars in the front entry way when I left at the end of 04'.

Now, in the lobby, they have a new Camaro and two bikes, one Kawi and one BMW. My understanding is they have a BUNCH of cars garaged up somewhere. I'm not sure if it touches on every era of patrol cars, but I got the impression that there were few stones unturned. Never seen it though, only heard 'bout it in rumors.
In 2000, when I was in the radar program at Research & Planning, we donated a couple of the old Kustom HAWK radar units and a couple of the Golden Eagles (along with a few ancient hand held units), to the Museum project. We thought it'd be nice to equip whatever they do have as authentically as possible...
