I know that is a bad word lately, but there is a lot of worry that is going on because there is VERY little confirmed information on how this will affect the Academy and Cadets. It is difficult enough remaining positive as some ladies sit on pins and needles regarding EVOC testing and procedures, so hopefully we can get some of these questions answered to help ease one area of stress!

Here are the most prominent questions that I have heard (others feel free to add on yours) and I am hoping someone with actual acurate information will be able to answer either through PM or on this post. I did a search but I believe the last time this happened in this extreme was 2003.

1. Did the transfer lists for officers come out and have they been processed?
2. Will a dream sheet for CTC II-08 be released if the transfer list has not been processed or released?
3. Will the cadets be pink slipped IF the transefer list is frozen due to budget issues?
4. Will CTC IV-08 be affected and if so, how?
5. What is the best way to be supportive and what should/can we tell the cadets that also have this on their minds?

Hopefully this will put a stop to rumors and help ease those that are looking at moving their families or trying to rent places in six weeks. WE REALLY appreciate anyone that is able to help us ALL out with this information. Lack of information breeds unneccessary worry and there is plenty of that to go around while our loved ones are in the Academy!

Thank you!

My understanding is that the hiring of officers is a separate issue and not an issue

The budget stalemate happens almost every year. This time is a few weeks past last year (late August).

In 18 years with the Dept I have never heard of an academy class not being assigned when they graduated. There have been hiring freezes before but that means no new academy.

What is your husband being told at the Academy? This rumor must be coming from someplace but I don't know anything about it.

The academy list USUALLY follows the transfer list but they are not tied together. I have also not heard anything about transfers not happening. The transfer list is later than usual, probably because of the large number of transfers from the 12 hour shifts, but no word about transfers being put on hold.

I doubt that anyone who posts here is in a position to answer any of those questions without speculating. And, that speculation is usually based on what they heard from a friend who knows someone that works on the third floor next to the closet where another friend was looking for something.

Sorry to say it but everyone will have to wait and see how the whole thing plays out. The good news is that if this is the greatest worry you and your spouse have over the next thirty years then you'll be very lucky.
Good Luck. I hope everything works out.

My crystal ball says there are better things to worry about.

I can help a bit. The main thing to do is to get through the Academy. Don't worry about the budget mess. Nothing has been threatened to current employees and cadets are current employees. The CHP has invested a lot of money to get them this far. IF I say again IF CHP were asked to reduce numbers, they could do it by eliminating the vacant positions and not filing newly retired ones. The Gov and the legislature are all on board with us expanding and NO ONE has suggested that CHP reduce the uniform ranks.
The rank and file of the CHP have been immune so far to all of the proposed cuts. We (the CAHP/CHP) have been working hard to maintain the increased funding needed to hire additional Officers above atrition.
Cadets need only worry about thier next test and the Staff Officers.

2. Will a dream sheet for CTC II-08 be released if the transfer list has not been processed or released?

According to my husband who is in this class, dream sheets are supposed to be issued this week.

They are in week 20 and that is when the last few classes got theirs

Also ... IF - and that is a big IF - the officer transfer list cannot be released due to the budget that does not mean it is not done. They may know where everyone is going even if they cannot release the info yet. But, I still don't think the transfer list has anything to do with the budget.

In the mail today came our first issue of the CAHP newsletter. Right there, smack dab on the front, the first headline reads "CHP officers and sergeants exempt from minimum wage mandate". Can't find it on there website and I don't want to type it all out but it's pretty clear on what it says.

No disrespect to anyone but asking about the budget is important to some of us. I for one need to have my spouse/significant other's income to pay bills. It has been on my mind and it helps to hear what others have to say. We all know that the Cadets will find out first if their pay and/or future jobs will be affected. Its just nice to vent and talk out loud. Thank you.

+1  You go girl! It kinda sucks to be told that you can come on here and talk to people that have the same feelings and concerns that you do but when you voice them, you get people that bring you down. Now how does that seem fair?? :noidea: You go! I am with you on this one!

If you use the friendly search function this has been discussed already with facts about us being exempt. It is the repeated questions on the same topic that just make it seem like maybe you didn't believe the first 10 people who said the CHP is not effected.

We all depend on our CHP paychecks. But, this happens almost every year so we know to believe the press releases etc that we are exempt.

All I see here are people answering your questions. Nobody has been rude in any way so I'm not sure how answering your questions is bringing you down. You were in fact told to not worry about it - that shoud bring you up.

There are a number of threads on this. For those who are concerned, just a word of advice. This happens almost every year. I can't remember the last time Ca had a budget on time. You can't panic every time.

Here is one of the threads that may help:

I think this has all been made into far larger a deal than it is. Yes, you are supposed to come here and ask questions and talk to those in your shoes. But, when someone answers your question, you need to respect them like you want to be respected. I am not picking on anyone, or singling any single person out. I am merely trying to bring everyone back to a reasonable conversation level.

To answer the original question, no one can answer your question line for line. The information given to you so far, though, is all that is available. I don't think you guys have anything to worry about based on the posts of those who have been around this block numerous times. It is OK to wonder if you are going to have income in a few months, no one can knock you for that. But the general consensus seems to be that you don't need to worry right now about the budget affecting that income.

I know everyone's emotional levels are at a max right now, waiting for dream sheets and dealing with scenario testing. But let's play nice here! We are all in this together, in a relatively small department. Whether our opinions differ, or our way of explaining them is not the same as you do it, we have the same goals. We are a family (albeit a little dysfunctional at times), and we need to remember that.

I was going to write a response about hurt feelings but decided not to; I agree this has blown up for no reason. Let me say that the original poster asked for "actual acurate information" and the problem is that no one -- probably not even the Commissioner, Secretary Bonner, or the Governor could tell us exactly what the outcome would be regarding the questions posed. Everything is fluid and changing daily, as it usually does. What those of us with experience can, and have said, is that there is probably (in my mind 95+%) nothing at all to worry about, and that aside from recycling paper clips & waiting for a 4.1% raise (paid retroactively), we're not currently being affected.

I agree with DW. No one is trying to be rude, but there are more important things to worry about. From day 1 of this budget thing it was said that public safety would not be affected. (Thats us by the way) Things will work out. We all have the same concerns about money, but the association takes care of us and this thing will be worked out soon. So just relax.

Again, no DISRESPECT to anyone but some of us just need to vent or talk out loud. It doesnt seem to me that anyone has been "panicking" in any way, just merely talking out loud. Like I said, our Cadets will let us know how or IF they will be affected and so far nothing has been said by our Cadets so until then we are all fine. To CHPWIFE I haven't used the friendly search button. I just come on and read what I read. Some of us are still new to this so we don't know to obtain certain areas of the forums but are learning. I can't speak for everyone but to me SOME of the responses posted to questions/concerns have been extremely helpful while some have been put in a way that don't appear to be in a nice way. I keep reading that there are more important things to worry about and while that is true in some ways, for other's it is a worry some topic. I apologize to anyone who has taken what I have said personally. I think that this topic is done and we should all move on.
